Majority of sidewalls are only a 3 ply. The bead will play a part depending on tire, but the drop center of the rim will also play a big part.

Most of the difference in how hard tires are to mount and dismount is because of the drop center of the wheel. Tires themselves play a small part but it is usually the wheels that make the difference. As far as lube. All that is is liquid soap. I would help you do it if you wanted to come to Yakima.

You hti it right on the head as to what i was going to say. While you are there check to see if you seals are cracked out around your caliper pistons.

When you buy a set of loaded calipers it should come with the lube.

I have a buddy that owns a muller shop. When I was looking into them he told me that the external case was the only difference. Whether he was right, I don't know.
