Rare, yes, but saying never is ignorant. I've sent two trucks (One Chev, one Dodge) still under warranty to the dealer for loose in the last 3 or 4 years.

Good and bad. On road handling is better except for stopping, reversal tends to have more brake dive. In a jeep you normally need more available slip in the front driveline than with the shackle up front and could run into issues with the tires contacting the fenders as the axle moves back on...
The way I see it Karl, you have 3 choices, rain gear and deal with getting covered in mud, no rain gear and get soaked and covered in mud, or put you top on.

sounds like it's time for batteries but the only time I have dealt with that smell from batteries is an overcharge condition so make sure to check the charging system
