Standard transmission in a rock buggy?

Figured that I would revive this thread a little. I have the SM465/NP203/D300 in my CJ7. I'm moving forward on my tube buggy build and came home with two transmissions yesterday. An SM420 with a 7.06:1 first gear AND a light duty Chevy NV4500. I'm not sure just yet whether it has the 5.61:1...

Standard transmission in a rock buggy?

That would be an awesome find! Wonder what it was? C/K2500-3500's, perhaps?

Standard transmission in a rock buggy?

May I ask what your final crawl ratio is? I've never had a crawl ratio lower than my CJ7 (79.45:1). I could definitely go lower!

Standard transmission in a rock buggy?

An NV4500 would be great, being a 5 speed! I have a 4:1 + a 2:1 doubler. But, I reall6 like the low range of the first gear in the SM465! BUT, I really appreciate all of the personal experience! Would you prefer your higher gearing and overdrive, over a lower first gear?

Standard transmission in a rock buggy?

Yes, I live in Arizona. Rig will be run primarily in Moab, Rubicon Trail area, Colorado and Johnson Valley. Yeah, I've been torn on saving up for an Atlas. They're sure pricey, though!

Standard transmission in a rock buggy?

Hey all, I get it that auto's are easy. VERY convenient. But I just like shifting gears! Plus, an SM465 has what, a 6.55:1 1st gear? That's LOW! So, I was thinking of putting an SM465 transmission into my rock buggy. Anyone else have one in a buggy/truggy? Now, I need to figure out my...

Spool options for Dana 70 rear?

I actually don't! And was seriously thinking that I'd ultimately run 4.56's, since I have so much reduction in the double cases! I'd definitely be interested in them!

Spool options for Dana 70 rear?

I had actually found that, too. I was hoping that there was a cheaper option out there, since there are D60 spools for like $160... I would just weld it, but not certain I can with the factory limited slip? Perhaps you can? I just had it in my mind that you couldn't weld up the limited slip...

Spool options for Dana 70 rear?

Hey all, I've got a Dana 70 out of a SWR 2000 Dodge Ram 3500. Curious what my options are for a spool out back. Going into my buggy. Wanting to keep it simple/cheap. I've read about people running a D80 Spool with different bearings and some spacers. Are there other good options out there...
