    Made it to Surprise Lake

Got the Bronco up to Surprise lake yesterday. The only spot I almost couldnt get thru is the final hill climb around the stump at the top. We started to winch, but that made things worse, so just got out and man handled some rocks into the hole and did my best foot work. Antilock brakes work...

    The Future of four wheeling.

side by sides and the various forms of them is where I see it heading. Especially once the market starts to bring them to a more affordable heavily used supply. And if WA ever fixes their ATV laws to make getting those side x sides to the trailhead even easier, then game on.

    Arson Fire at Mowich Lake

well since you cant prove someone hiked in, and I cant prove someone rode in, I guess that just leaves us with our opinions. Sorry you dont like mine. Im basing it on the fact that its 7 miles from the gate to the campground and if one is planning to be up to no good, I'd sure as hell have an...

    Arson Fire at Mowich Lake

And I would ask to see a chart of occurrence/damage vs nearest vehicle access (legal or otherwise). Somehow I dont see there being a huge vandalism problem if its more than say an hour of walking away from their vehicle. Regardless, the FD didnt say how the person got up there. Only that...

    Arson Fire at Mowich Lake

Because hoodlums are lazy, and if I had my choice between a hiking hoodlum and a hoodlum on a motorcycle, i'd pick the motorcycle as the sure thing. The fire dept didnt put out much info, other than it happened in the last 5 to 10 days and they were confident it was arson.

    Arson Fire at Mowich Lake

Not sure how much snow was up there in their window of opportunity. They were planning to open the gate this coming week. I was up at Cedar Lake (above Wilkeson) and its 5000 feet and there was one tiny patch of snow left in a shady spot. Long way to hike, and then get caught hiking back out...

    Arson Fire at Mowich Lake

No, this one is above the locked gate, at the lake itself. The permanent staffed one is down along the carbon river road.

    Arson Fire at Mowich Lake

So, not specifically Evans related, but maybe someone who wheels there saw something odd? Someone set fire to the Ranger Shack at Mowich lake in the last 5 to 10 days. Buckley Fire is assisting the National Park in trying to drum up some info. The gate to mowich should still be closed, which...

    Current Conditions?

Is it county or state? My maps call it State Route 165 from Buckley all the way to the mount rainier border, then it becomes federal. Im also surprised the state hasnt been sued to pave it. Thats what happened to Pike's Peak. Lawsuit. No more dirt road to the top. End of an era for racing.

    Current Conditions?

I was up at Evans today with a buddy. We didnt run very much, but there was a little bit of snow in the campground, mostly in the shade. We ran the 102 uphill and never saw snow, and the ground was nice and hard, only a few water holes. The gravel road from the pavement up to the park was...

    beavers pond legal or not

I just looked up the GIS data on the area. Its owned by a whole bunch of different groups. A large chunk of it is owned by Sunrise Development Corp tho. Regardless, if its posted, its trespassing. Doesnt look like any of the major private timber companies like plum creek or hancock have any land...

    beavers pond legal or not

heh. The beaver ponds (beaver only recently got the "s" added to it) have been an offroad area for DECADES. My dad used to ride his dirtbike there in the 70s. He lived in Graham, and you could get to the ponds without touching any pavement except to cross 200th. I rode and wheeled there from the...

    Glamis dunes

    Evens Creek

Oh, ok, so just within the orv park itself then, not the rest of the NFS land surrounding it? I know if you keep going up towards Mowich Lake, it turns into Mt Rainier Nat Forest, and shooting is off-limits again.

    Evens Creek

Is there a posting somewhere? I tried looking and couldnt find anything. Its National Forest land, which is legal to shoot on unless specifically closed, and the only closure info I could find was along the I-90 corridor. The only limits I could find was no shooting across roads, water, in...

Shooting Guns at or near Evans

Hit and miss along that road. The first pit, right as you cross the bridge is technically Plum Creek, and therefore no shooting. Go up the road a ways, but before the surprise lake trail, and it turns into NFS land, but then kicks back to PC again almost all the way to Coplay lake. Get to...

    evans closed?

Evans is about 15 minutes from my house. Highway 165 to the NW corner of Mt Rainier. Go thru the towns of Buckley, Burnett, Wilkeson, and Carbonado. Cross the historic 1-lane Fairfax bridge, then take the road to the right like your going to Mowich Lake. Evans used to be pretty hard, but I've...

    Evans Creek Opening

I drive by the sign in burnett everyday. Opens April 1st. I see alot of wheelers heading up there anywayz. Im guessing they either know a bat cave entrance, or just driving over the gate because of snow depth or something.
