Main gate is open. Road to the campground is still blocked and closed. Road and 1st parking lot has 12" of snow and it was snowing heavily today. There were only 2 vehicles up there today and one was stuck and winching in the parking lot. Tow rigs will get stuck until it warms up for a few...

I can give the road engineer a ride up in my truck if that is what the hold up is. Do you know his name? Rent me a dozer and I will cut in a new road for free.

I called and talked to the lady at the front desk (360-825-6585 ext 0) and she said May 1st at the soonest. They are waiting for the snow to melt and the engineer is still engineering a road fix.

    Surprise lake

It's private property and over used. There is government land all around it and hikers would love to close the road. Please keep this place off the internet. Too much love is not good for this area.

Current pics, Old trails - Reiter

Much of the land DNR manages are tree farms. The money from the trees is given to different public schools. They don't like 4x4s rubbing bark or driving over roots. Silt from trails going into fish bearing streams is a concern for them as well. Elbe and Tahuya are also tree farms. The 4x4...

    2017....open?

A full width Ford Dana 60 front with 12.5 wide tires is about 78" wide. Full width Chev Dana 60 with the same tires and wheels is right at 80". Most Dana 70 or 14 bolt rears are a few inches narrower. The poles and trails are no problems, just don't run a wide wheel or tire.
