10 bolt lockout hubs reassembly? Not unlocking...

Stripped the factory lockouts for cleaning off a '85 8 lug 10 bolt...put them back together, pretty sure I didn't get the drive flange set at the correct depth because now they're not unlocking reliably. I think I set them on the far end of the twist dial part, but it's been a couple years since I had it apart.

Is there a spec for where to set the drive flange, or is this just life with a welded front diff, and I should just put drive slugs in at this point?
 
I wouldn't run flanges with a 10 bolt unless you got chromoly axles .

If you have good shafts a would run a slug and rock out .
 
Chromos check, and it's under the front of a Samurai that's strictly a low speed crawler..I'm really not all that concerned about breaking it.

This is just my first go at a welded front, and wasn't sure what to expect, in whether this was expected behavior or not. Much the same as getting used to how the full hydro steering worked/reacted, and learning where I made mistakes along the way.
