Well, after spending 215.99 plus tax on a battery to get my **** outta the woods at Choco, as mr john g said as he showed me on the map " Casey there's no way possible to break down further away from camp ". (Haha dammed if he wasn't spot on) I go and buy a battery only to find out it was the Fawkin alternator. So went back and bought the only thing they had, somewhere around 60-70 amps. I'm worried that that will bit not be enough and cost me the new battery. And at this point in time I'm not ready to buy another dam battery. So I need a 140 amp gm one wire alternator. Wanted to check with anyone here before buying one off of eBay for 100 buks. Figured someone had one laying around and would rather have a lil money instead. Need it to be for V belt, goin on 400 SBC if that helps, or is necessary info. Post here, pm or text at 4048892714. Casey
Kinda need it soon. As I may find a way to go to MYM this weekend. Anyways Lemme know fellas. Thanks! Also, not to offend anyone but I'm kinda OCD so if it looks like it's been on the bottom of the ocean , I can't use it. It will drive me nuts looking at it. Thanks again.

Do you have any alternator/starter rebuilders near you? Mine was a standard oreilly deal then some new magic parts in it and came out one wire and 120 amp?!

Hell yeah! I have a 200 dollar starter with him, and bought a 100 dollar starter from him to save my flywheel. His **** workin perfect. I need to go pick old starter up. I'll just get with him. He's got about 1000 Layin around. ****s nuts. He showed me a lot of wat his work was. Cool ****. I actually thought bout him but dam forgot. Haha. Dam idiot... Thanks bud. Get back to work! :woot:

I've got a new msd alternator v belt pully and it's fully adjustable to fit anything and I think it's like 160 amp one wire I'll sell. Plus it's all bling bling :****:

I picked up a brand new one wire v belt chevy alternator that dynoed at 85 amps at 600 rpm's and 200 amps at 1200 rpm's for $135.00 on Zorro. Crome with billit pulley. There you go.

Here's a better question .... Why do you think a 60a will not support your needs ? Your not efi , you don't rock a crazy stereo and you run leds ..... No hate just curiosity

I know the math doesn't add up, but from experience I have seen a 60 amp alternator be unable to run an HEI ignition, and MSD box, and an electric fan at the same time on a YJ

This is my worry piper . For one I don't want to buy another ****ing battery.. I really don't know, I was reading until my head started hurting.. And I know that the Taurus fan or Volvo fan, start up is about 100 amps.. Although I did some Volvo relay, but it still supposed to be 30 continuous.. I'm going to put a stereo in one day, may have an amp may Not. I have no clue How many amps the LEDs pull, but I have a few I like to use, plus fan,.. I just figured better to have more than enough. Bought a ****ing red top battery and then read a bunch of bad reviews! Hell yeah awesome! And then there's the i really have no Fukin clue thing. Haha I really don't want anymore electrical issues.. I wanna get something better and be done. But if I'm wrong please tell me, cause I'm confused .. Electrical is not my thing. Save me some loot son.!

There is a company that is a vendor on here that sells something like 300 amp alternator. Spendy but nice.
Yeah I think he text me I've got to text him back. Some of the alternators us our $6-800 buks. Wooo hooooo I bet that ***** wakes up everything..

First off just a little info
If the alternator is to low amp it won't hurt the battery per say it will just run it down you could put a battery maintainer on it while it sits and you would probably never notice any kind of problem while riding for a weekend!

60 amp alternators have been used on sbc's for a long time they didn't start putting higher amp ones on until efi power windows and all that sort of stuff, it works!

Your jeep has at max with the engine running and all accessories on( fan, hei, lights, radio) 45-50 amp so it is still charging the battery just slower.

When you throw all accessories on and add a winch you go in to the negative possibly pulling 450-500 amps at max line pull! The only thing that saves us here is the reserve capacity of the battery!

With that said at night with everything running and winching piper and a couple other folks up a hill you will drain your battery.

That takes you back to the low charge rate of 60amps it will take your alternator a fair amount of time to get your battery back charged!

A modified stock alternator that puts out 100-140amp is pleanty for your setup! Shouldn't cost more than $100 even with buying a reman alt to start with!

Also you need to make sure to run a large enough wire from your alt to the battery! High amperage will melt down a small wire! I'd do the same size wire as the winch cable.

www.mechman.com

I'm running a 350 amp unit at 15.5 volts on an AGM battery and that **** makes a cooling fan, lights and winch come alive!

At idle under a hard winch pull voltage never drops below 14.3volts.

Mechman is a small company here in East Tennessee and Chris or Matt would be glad to help the offroad community as they are both avid offroaders.

You don't hafta run thier big money stuff to get high quality....they're smaller amperage units deliver quit a punch and they stand behind thier product.

I have two battery set up and when went from a 100 amp alt. To this 200 amp. With electric fans, droped my engine temp 20 degrees.

The higher the amperage, the more heat generated, the faster wiring will burn up. Factory trucks and cars only run 95 amp alternators and most of us are not running power windows, electric butt warmers and such on our rigs. Stick with something in the 100-120 amp range and you should be fine. I would find a local re builder, maybe not the one you previously used, and have them re vamp yours.

Did you mean winding? Like inside the alternator?

Surely you didn't mean the actual wiring in the vehicle....

And I would assume that when a person installs a high amp alternator, that they would know to also install a charge wire capable of carrying the extra amperage to their battery.

That is correct, the alternator will heat up quicker and thus the 1 wire back to the battery will fry if undersized, especially under load. A 4 gauge wire is usually adequate sized and use the correct connectors, don't cut wire down to fit smaller connector.

There's an auto-electric place on Newnan Ave in Carrollton (Johnson's Auto-electric i think?) that rewound a FJ60 alternator for me for higher amps a couple years ago...
