Been looking at changing out the super deep truck oil pan on my 5.3 for a lil more clearence. I will be running the passenger side header under the pan and into a Y on the drivers side and my question is I don't see alot of people run front sump oil pans but it would make the bends alot easier in the exhaust if they ran behind the sump instead of back towards the front of the rig and then 180 to the back. If front sump isn't possible I'm proabably going Kevko for the baffling/oil control and not really much more than a stock f body pan.

Front engine with a front sump wont be very optimal for hill climbing at all.
But if you are going to do it. I see it as you have 2 choices, both of which I'd run a 3qt Accumulator on..
1. Pontiac GTO pan.
2. Canton Drift pan, uses a stock GTO pickup. https://www.cantonracingproducts.com/product/15-276/15-276---GM-LS1LS6-5-58quot-DEEP-FRONT-SUMP-DRIFTROAD-RACE--PAN/

The inside of the Canton looks like the Kevco, only much higher quality,

And for anyone looking at Kevco or the Kevco style, I'd suggest the Canton 15-274

I ran a Kevco years ago, and it was pretty top notch, I've seen recent ones, and heard other horror stories on recent ones. Appears Kevco's quality control has plummeted.

I guess i'll look at the canton, or another rear sump. I knew front sump wasn't optimal especially for hillclimbing but thought there may be a front sump pan with enough baffling to work without a big accumulator and external lines. Thanks for the quick and thorough responses.

do the stock fbody/vette/ctsv/car pans have enough baffling for the angles seen in offroad? I have seen a baffle you can install in a stock ls1 pan to help but it's another 100-150 might as well buy a kevko/mast for those combined costs. Also a little off topic but anyone know a place the does good TH350 rebuilds in the Auburn/Columbus Area or possibly Bham?

I am also looking to change my truck pan out on my 5.3 and was a wondering if anybody has went with the F-Body Camaro/Firebird LS1 Part # 12628771 Oil Pan. It is about half price of a mast pan and has about the same dimensions. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I have an F-body pan with the Improved Racing baffle kit in it which mimics the Kevco pan. I'm still going to run an accumulator, though...
