[QUOTE="InDaShop, post: 256627, member: 1295"] Prior to the show, shoot prior to 4-5 years ago, yes Ass Monkey tried to come off as more than a buy and flip business. (They still may I just dont actively worry about them) They actually got in a lot of business name damaging trouble buying cars from Cali, and then trying to flip them as their own shops products. It pissed a lot of well known named builders off. Like if you took a Woodlee buggy, hauled it to Cali and then advertised it for sale never mentioning its a Woodlee, but saying all the things you did to build it. "When designing this buggy we decided on the LSx454 because its the best "X" for this type of buggy" type of claim. They used to have a pretty awesome fabricator but he has left and hung his own shingle. And based on the only recent real world story I've heard they farm out a lot of their work, and in that so called farming our screwed a buddy of mine by never paying him, and claiming the cameo spot on the show was sufficent compensation. I truely havent had any interaction with Rawlings since he tried to scam me back in the day on a '32 Ford roadster. But I hear stories. I'm lucky I live in Houston and they are up in Dallas 4 hours away. As a business man, I do respect Rawlings in getting a show created and continueing to stay in the limelight. Thats really what I got out of him way back when, was that he craves large scale attention. Now, Austin Speed Shop, the old South Austin Speed Shop. That is a legit group of bad ass fabricators all under one roof. Bob Bleed, and Luke DiCurio are amzing metalsmiths, and I know Bob routinely talks openly about what all Jesse has taught him. I met Luke in LA right at 6 years ago, he was living in a friend of mines shop out there and doing odd fabrication jobs for people. He's really good, and hence when Jesse gave him the chance to come to Austin he jumped on it. And the old interior guy "Fat Lucky" from Austin Speed recently left to do his own thing, he's the guy who did the interior on my '65 Rivi. Its very interesting to have been around all of those guys as the originalSASS guys slowly sold out and left and the new guys came in, including Jesse. Jesse just recreated in ASS what he had with WCC. They are predominately a "HAT" shop these days, by that I mean their major source of revenue is merchandise and merchanding vs. actual product.
