Kaner Flats Fire

There was a small (1/4 acre) fire in the Kaner Flats (676) trail area last nite. At about 4pm 7/22/13 some motorcycles that were riding the area noticed heavy smoke. The investigated and found the fire. They reported it to FS personal in the area. Fire responders from the FS Naches District were on site by 5pm and the fire was contained by 6:30 pm. Mop up operations continued into the later hours. Initial reports were "human caused".

Please be careful. Last year was bad enough and this year the fire conditions are worse.

For current Naches Ranger District Campfire restrictions call 509-653-1401 M-F during business hours. If a ban happens the area's are well signed as to what is allowed/not allowed.

It's only a matter of time before the Naches, Manastash and Taneum burn like Table Mt. My only hope that it is not caused by man but all forests burn eventually. I don't envy the position that the FS has put themselves in with 100yrs of fire mismanagement. It's not the current groups fault but they're stuck with the problem.
