I was invited to go along with a couple other guys headed over the mountains to make a run up into the Manastash area to see if we could find some snow and to just play around a little.
Well the adventures started Friday on the drive over we hit some thick fog and took one or two extra turns navigating to find Manastash Canyon road. Then about a mile past the end of the pavement, we found about 3 inches of fresh snow. My trailer ended up sliding into the ditch (uphill side) but I was able to power out and get to the top of the hill where I stopped to chain up. The rest of the way up to riders camp (I later learned the name of the camp) was uneventful although the trailer was sliding around pretty good on a couple switch backs.
The next morning came way to early and was very chilly but we put on our cold weather gear and put rain gear over the top and headed out to find the road to tripod flats. I think we started on 4w307 and then hit 4w308 Shoestring trail and then on to 4w306 Manastash ridge trail. The trail was fun with some newly downed trees and between 4 to 8 inches of snow. The snow made it interesting to find and stay on the trail as we were making fresh tracks. Someplace up on Manastash ridge one of the guys starting having a fan/relay issue causing the rig to over heat, so we decided to head back to camp.
Back at camp we dropped of the broken rig grabbed some food then headed back out to find another trail. It was just getting dark when we started up 4w311. The bridge at the start is very interesting especially when the snow is almost as high as the side rails. Someone dropped a tire off the side (I wonder who that was) but that was a momentary
