Kind of a loaded question.....I have a good friend with 2 inch springs and spring over with no SYE.
There is a lot of proper set up involved with making it last. It can be done but I would never advise it.
You will be happier getting a SYE or keep it low and trim to fit.
If you just want to fit bigger tires go for a body lift.
The only reason to not put on a SYE is $$$. I suggest saving some and do it correctly:awesomework:

My brothers got a YJ with 4 inch suspension lift & no SYE, He daily drives it and has to change U-joints about once a year. I would not suggest going over 4 inches without a SYE, fork out the 250 bucks & buy one off ebay:awesomework:

On one of the heep transfercases, can't you use the rear output yoke off a 2wd turbo 350 to make a SYE?:eeek:
