toyota rears up front

I used All Pro shackles.
Take two spring packs. Use the top 3 from one pack, then cut a spring 3.5-4" shorter then the last until you have a pack of 6 springs.
Your stock driveline should be fine. Unless you have a real flexy front end.

i am also winging it i have the springs just a stock set out of a 86 in the front hanger with the rear sitting on the frame to see whats what i really like how it moved the axel foward a few inchs

What does this set up do to your caster/pinion angle?

putting rears up front should not change the caster at all..or the pinion angle taking a 3* shim out will effect caster and pinion angle, but asfar as i can see putting rears up front won't change either one

I went with 79-83 springs for the main springs. I think using the newer springs it might move the axle to far forward, and you could have steering issues.
79-83 Toyota Rear
Flat length = 48"
Front Half = 21.125"
Rear Half = 26.875"
Width = 2.36"
Front Eyelet = 18mm ID
Rear Eyelet = 18mm ID

84-88 Toyota Rear
Flat length = 48"
Front Half = 20.5"
Rear Half = 27.5"
Width = 2.36"
Front Eyelet = 14mm ID
Rear Eyelet = 18mm ID

The only real difference with yota rears is the bushings. Pre 84 has replacable bushings in both ends. 84-88 are the same relative length but the front bushing is a pressed in metal shelled bushing. You can press/burn whatever you like to remove it then put standard first gen bushings in its place.

If you are using the stock hanger you'll need a shackle with about 5 1/2 centers on the holes so the spring doesnt lay flat on the frame. That will require about a 5* shim to take some caster away from the front end due to the long shackles.

your pinion angle will be the same but you should really think about shackles, you won't get full stuff with stock shackles,because your springs will bottom out on your frame, and you will get alittle less drop aswell, your pinion angle shouldn't be bad enough in the front with longer shackles to where you would have to even use shims.

I have two rear packs up front and Ford F-150s (4X4) in the rear. One pack was off an 85 and the other was off an 88. I have 6 1/4" shackles up front and 7 1/4" shackles in the rear. The front has a custom made drop hanger to help correct some of the caster angle. It also helps with a little more lift. I relocated the center pin so the axle wouldn't be so far forward. I have TG's High Steer and I love it compared to stock. You'll either need that or a drop drag link, which I recommend not having, IMO. I still need to lengthen my front drive shaft, even though I relocated the center pin way back. It will come apart if the whole axle drops or the passenger side drops to its extreme. It doesn't happen too often, but is a PITA to have to keep putting it back together.

I really like my set up, except for sometimes I think it's too soft in the front and I plan on stiffening it up just a little. Maybe add a leaf or something. It has mad flex, though! I have about 32" of total articulation right now and I still have a few quirks to work out.

What are you using for the rear? I hope you're not gonna just block it... :eeek: :D

if i use the stock shackles the pinion angle should not change right???

No, it won't change just like all your flex if you stay with the stock ones. My brother in law did that and he coulda had a lot more flex if he'd gone with something longer. I was like....:wtf:

nope no blocks in the rear with the rear of the front springs on the frame it looks pretty level front to rear.. but I just used one set of rears up front still stock out back..... I just checked the steering and the thing from the pitman arm to the axel hits the front factory spring perch ...if I remove the pitman arm and shorten that shaft center up the steering box will this fix the problom or are there better/easier fixes

Hy/steer. I'd do it for a temp. solution but your limiting your travel and its a crappy set up to begin with. You'll be much happier on and off the road for a couple hundered bucks. Steering is like brakes shortcuts arent suggested.
