Ever groove your boots?

Good boots aren't cheap, and in this economical crisis, money doesn't flow like it used to. My Danner boots are still in great shape, except the sole has no tread left. Enter tire groover, a few beers, and a little creativity. Pics to follow as soon as I am finished with this masterpiece. :beer:

I have some romeos that are smooth bottoms and when ever its wet I end up on my ass . I dont wear them anymore but they are my favorite shoe. I have thought about doing this....

You can send those boots back to Danner, and for a nominal fee they'll resole them. I've sent my boots back once, and they came back looking damn near like new, and they were over 10 years old. Danner's located in Portland Oregon.

I have a pair of Danners I have resoled twice. I bought them in Germany when I was stationed there in '92. Best pair of boots I have ever owned.

There was a place in Savannah, GA that would resole your boots with your favorite tire tread design. A friend of mine got his redone with Bogger tread. :cool:

I did that to a pair of romeos I had. Cut em in a baja claw style pattern. Works good. Ya can do it with a exacto knife:awesomework:

my boots rarely last long enough to wear the tread smooth. Usually the leather toes or instep gets holes in em first.

This is old school and has been done for centuries....I bet you have a local cobbler, or shoe smith....These guys can put a new treaded soul on any boot in a matter of hours...This is where lumberjacks and other go to get there boots done/repaired/recorked.

The cost is very minimal and helping the local buisness is priceless....give em a try...

I'v regrooved my boots before, cept I used a skillsaw to do it with. and did it again after putting a layer of shoe-goo on them.

Were awesome, now 95% of their boots are made by chinese children :mad:

no grooving but we use to take a tire and cut a new soul then screw it on the bottom of the boot, when we walked on hot steel we could just replace the tire tread when it was all melted.

I know a homeless Vietnam Vet that can redo work boots with tire tread. He has repaired some of my old boots and does amazing work. :cool:
