Tahuya fear of closing? False rumor?

This has been well documented. The DNR can right now charge us $25 a day for use with very limited liability. In fact the same liability they have by letting us use it for free. There is a process going right now to get the $25 raised up to $50.
I have no idea why they don't charge now.:eeek:

50 bucks a day? :eeek:

Come hear the current report on Tahuya at the PNW Region 2 meeting tonight 3/18 at 4 wheel parts in Tacoma. Meeting starts at 7:30 but if your there at 7:00 you can score some pizza or burgers.

From what I recall the camping and crappers are already closed over there.

It's all subject to closing for lack of funding. That's why the law suite to get the NOVA money back from state parks. Loose the LEO's and vandalism, trash dumping, illegal mudding become a major problem. Then they're justified in locking gates and putting up barricades. It was equipment vandalism and trash dumping that chased everyone off Weyerhaeuser, anyone remember wheelin Grass Mountain off 410?

See you tonight?

Ya beat me to it Don :awesomework:

Well i know what you are saying. Its lkie Evans creek. It use to cost nothing then they started charging N requireing the forest passes and the money has gone where. The road up their sucks the trails are lame and all they do is pull you over and write you some bigass ticket.

The NW forest pass covers all of region 6 of the FS (ore,wa.Id) It covers ALL trailheads, hiking and ORV as well as horses and mt bikes. 80% of the fee stays in the district that the pass was bought in and if you request it can be earmarked for a specific area (like evans) The trail pass money has been spent on many small improvements at Evans creek and is part of what funds the trail crew there and will be funding a 3 person crew this season as well as paying for a small tractor. If your not doing anything illegall then you have nothing to worry about. If you have gotten ticketed then you were probably doing something that you shouldnt have been doing and you got caught at it.

Thats only two and a half oil changes? why the big deal? Cant afford to wheel? cheapskate.:haha:

I dont change my oil after every trip. I wheel about 4 times a month. I am not willing to pay 2400$ a year to wheel.

50 bucks a year makes sense, not 50 a day.

Binder merely said that they CAN charge UP TO $25/day with the current laws/rules.

Doesn't mean they will.

I see $5-$10 day/weekend very reasonable. I'll hate paying it, but if there is some sort of guarantee that money does right back to the area in question (and not some "general fund"), I'll pay it.

$25/day is an extra (small) tank of gas.. that would suck. $25 a weekend/week.... little more bearable but still would suck.

$25-$50 /year for a "pass".. well that would translate to about $25/day for me right now :redneck:

Ain't no reason to even discuss fee's for use, cause it ain't gonna happen. And IF it was to happen, it ain't gonna be at Tahuya first.

Its an expensive hobby. maybe its time for BINGO.

Yes it is an expensive hobby which I enjoy. My views are very similar to what Mark said.

If the funds go back into the area I am enjoying then I am more willing to pay for the use of that area. I dont like the idea of padding a state slush fund and having my funds help to pay for soft sheets for inmates or some crap like that.

This is one of the reason I am more then willing to show up at work parties or restoration parties at Reiter. The work I am doing at these events goes directly into the area that I am involved in.

I just wish I could remember the quote that fit perfectly that was in someones signature. Basics of it where that those that do nothing let those that do wrong lose the trails for all of us.

Dont count your chickens before their hatched. The bill isnt dead as yet its still in play during this extended session of the leg.

Yes up to $50 a day. What I don't understand is why if they don't charge now did they initiate to raise the max amount?:eeek: Someone somewhere has something in mind and it will for sure cost the average Joe$$.
I think MAYBE it's driven from DNRs water resources side of things. Like maybe they want more money to use boat ramps or something.
I just don't think the timber growers side of things really understands their position on things very well.

LOL :haha:

Anyways I last time I was out there I spoke with a DNR rep and QP about this. All that is happening is logging, which I believe is going on now. But they wont be closing all of it, just parts.

The motorcyle trails are what will be affected the most. I think those trails are going to be the ones logged.

I keep hearing this as well. One of the guys in the quadra paws said that Once the logging is complete you should be able to see the Southloop from the staging area. But... I also heard from that same person that they were going to start the logging at the end of January too... There are some of timber sale boundry signs stapled to trees in between Mud lake & Yellow Jacket / Broken Axle Hill.

The logging has started.:awesomework:

It's the same for private landowners, and I bet some landowners want to charge more than $25. Privately owned motocross tracks come to mind.

Yeah I know but the bill was originated by the dept of parks and natural resources or something along those lines..

So I just did some quick math on how many users would it take per day to just cover law enforcement. Now these are rough and are no way accurate. But I bet I am close
Fees Users
$50.00 27
$25.00 55
$10.00 137
$5.00 274

THis every day 365 numbers

Based on what? How much do you think a DNR cop makes?

I for one would hnave ZERO issues paying to play as long as those funds are alocated(sp) to the area being used and not sucked into the general fund.
