the 197 is good fun, and i had to winch INTO the 311 this past weekend.
All in all, your right. However, its nice to have a place you can go for a drive in the woods, has fantastic veiws, and unless your a jeep:fawkdancesmiley:, you don't have to worry about breaking anything.:beer:
What year was the park created? Back when flatfenders and CJs on 31s were 99% of the vehicles on the trails?

Dont have one yet. I will let you know what the region decides after our next meeting. I will say that this is coming from the FS though. Quite honestly they are tired of spending so much time and money having to repair and maintain trails that are being abused to death. The trails were designed to be used by a certain type and size of vehicle and while the terrain hasnt changed the rigs have. Its going to be a long process but certainly one thats going to have to be addressed. This is going to be a issue forest wide as I have heard similar issues in the outher forests.
Just on another note. I was up at Evans yesterday and took a walk through the campground and was totaly discusted by whay our fellow users have been up to this past winter. There are only a couple of picnic tables left in the entire campground. They have all been cut up for firewood (cost about a grand a pop) There was trash everywhere. I cleaned up 6 piles of HUMAN **** and two of those were between the two outhouses on top. I mean really now WTF. Who are these fawking retards that are doing this crap to OUR (yours and mine) park ? We have spent years building a nice facility for people to use and some of our own users are tearing the place to shreds when nobodys looking. I was absolutly disgusseted by the time I left.

I was up there on saturday wheeling, I had to tell 2 groups that the "bypass" at the start of the 311 was illegal. ( so they all sat there and spun their "mud terrains" until there was a larger hole dug, to the point i couldn't get up it)
I had to tell another guy to get off the hill climb right afte teh bridge going to the day use area.
In my last 2 trips up there, i've told about 6-7 people to STAY on the trail.
The trails are not in bad shape, but people in stock (dare i say nissan pathfinders, as that is 1 i had to tell to get off the illegal bypass) are trying to navigate these trails and are not up for the challenge.
with the exception of the 197, the very beginning of the 311 and 1 or 2 other spots, its all in pretty good shape and easy. (leave the 197 alone please, its the only REALLY fun trail up there)
The first time I went wheeling at Evans was in 1997 in a Willys with 33x12.5 Wildcountrys and that was small, most Jeeps were running 36s. The trails were just as rutted as they are today. I know the USFS want to "harden" muddy parts of the trail to slow erosion but I think they should change the overall vehicle width to about 83". A wider vehicle is safer and more stable on sidehills and hillclimbs and there are alot of that type of terrain at Evans.

OK assuming I am OK with the width restrictions how do you keep the rig with in the established trail? I can show you lots of pictures of rigs that meet the width restriction but have a tire up on the side of the trail making it wider...

Hub to hub sounds familiar. When the rule was written hubs stuck out to the edge of the tire or even farther. Wider tires and rims were rare. In fact we used to have to make them. (rims)

I don't really see how that is fair? If it was 70" WMS to WMS, yes but hub to hub, no.
I bet my waggy axle is wider than 70" hub to hub.
I am doing online research on the subject. I was probably 1 year old when this vehicle rule was put on the books.
Hub to hub is more fair then 70" outside of tire to outside of tire. My girlfriends stock TJ is 71" tire to tire.
