WOW will be hosting our Annual Elbe Hills ORV work party on the weekend of September 18-19...

First off I would like to thank everyone that made last years work party such a huge success... We got a lot done including repairing the shelter and bridge on the Busywild...

This year will be no different... We will have several projects to tackle and we'll be working with Nancy, from the DNR, over the next several weeks getting them outlined...

This is a very exciting time to be part of Elbe, there are lots of great things happening out there... Some of you have seen the Rainier Vista Rock Crawl project, thanks to the Faith Wheelers, Hillclimbin' Hillbillies, WOW, WTF and many others...

There's also the Log Crawl on the Gotcha, thanks to WTF...

I know a lot of you have put in many hours on our trail systems keeping them open and I can't thank you enough...

But, for those that may not have had a chance to get out and help, I would like to personally invite you to come out for a great cause and one hell of a good time... Lots of working, wheeling and fun...

There will be camping available for those helping out and food at the end of each day...

This year there will be a raffle on Sunday for all the volunteers!!!:cheer:

Longfield Super Axles has donated a set of 15" beadlocks with free welding on your rims... Thanks Bobby and Tina...

Also, Donimator has donated a fishing trip on the 53' Ranger out of Westport with Capt. Donald Davenport... I've been on this trip and it was a blast...

Each volunteer that signs in will receive a raffle ticket for each prize... That means, if you sign in both days you'll have two chances at both prizes...

Hope to see you there...

The trails that we will focus on are the Busywild and Gotcha...

On the Busy we will be addressing, trail corridor re-enforcement, blocking off illegal bypasses, rocking legal bypasses, silt ponds and cleaning off the bridge...

On the Gotcha we plan on working on the bridge... At the Elbe focus group meeting tonight, we talked about putting in more pontoons under the bridge and planking the top the same way we did on the Busy bridge last year...

If you have any suggestions, feel free to bring them up...

Anyone that has equipment, materials or tools that may be helpful let us know...

I'll put it on the calendar but it depends on my son's football schedule and we don't have that out yet.

I would like to be their to help. And im gonna try although this is the same weekend as beach clean up.. But thats a ways out... We will see.

This is getting closer... Need to gear up and put on our game faces...:awesomework:

Here's what is on the list as of the last WOW meeting...

# We will have 2 excavators Nancy is renting one and Tyler is going to pick the one up from Tahuya.

# Things that are planned for this trail maintenance party are:

* Clean off the bridges

* Block off illegal by-passes on the Busy Wild

* Make some solid by-passes on the Busy Wild

* Fix the Gotcha Bridge like we fixed the Busy Wild Bridge last year

* Replace the missing trail signs

We're gonna need rigs that can carry a generator to the bridge on the gotcha to run drills... Also, drills, heavy gauge leads, hammers, anything that can help...

Anyone that can fill these duties please let me or Corey know... You don't need everything, just one or the other... If you have everything and can help, great...:cheer:

Should be a great weekend of wheeling, working and hanging out... I can't wait...

And again,,,

FOOD AND PRIZES!!!:cheer:

Those bead locks are gonna look great on someones rig...:cheer:

And the fishing trip is one hell of a great time...

Thanks again to the businesses that are always there to help us with our sport...

Hope to see everyone there...

We need trailers that can haul lots of rock... Anyone that has a trailer that can handle this, it would be a great help if you could bring it... A dump trailer would be even better...

One location you could pull the trailer with a street 4x4... The other would require the trailer to be towed onto the trail... Not real nasty, just down to the start of the bridge on Gotcha...

Let us know if you can help out with this...

Thanks,
Luey...

Here is a list of stuff we are going to accomplish this weekend. Show up at the campground, sign in, get a job description sheet, map and go out to the trails/roads. We will have free chili dogs and water in the campground for lunch. There will be a tracked bobcat loader, mini excavator and Kubota tractor for the rock moving jobs.

:hi:

  1. Clean all the mud off the bridge on Gotcha trail. This will require 1 or 2 wheelbarrows and people with flat bottom shovels. Dump the mud at least 20' from the end of the bridge so it does not flow into the wetlands the next time it rains. Please bring a shovel and wheelbarrow.

  2. Clean all the mud off the bridge on the Busywild trail. This will require 1 or 2 wheel barrows and people with flat bottom shovels. Dump the mud at least 20' from the end of the bridge so it does not flow into the wetlands the next time it rains. Please bring a shovel and wheelbarrow.

  3. Clean all the mud off the bridge on Sunrise trail. This will require 1 or 2 wheel barrows and people with flat bottom shovels. Dump the mud at least 20' from the end of the bridge so it does not flow into the wetlands the next time it rains. Please bring a shovel and wheelbarrow.

  4. Deep hole and bypass on Gotcha trail: 20 yards of crushed rock will be dumped on the side of 9 road where the Gotcha and Mainline Extension trail meet. Close to the bridge, the Gotcha trail is 3 lines wide. The easiest route needs a bunch of rock on it so it does not get worse. Use the Bobcat to load trailers (or track to the site) and dump the rock from the stump to the bridge planks. This area needs to be marked with paint so the people dumping the rock know exactly where it goes. The middle line that is a 4' ledge is pretty much impassable and needs a stump or log between the trees to block it off. The (more challenging) left line will be kept as it is. A small drainage ditch wil need to be dug between the crushed rock and bridge to keep water from running onto the bridge and to drain the mud hole on the left line.

  5. Replace the sign on Gotcha Trail: someone took one of the lag bolts off the sign and pulled the whole sign out of the ground. The sign is lying next to the 9 road where the rock will be dumped. The sign needs to be put back in the hole in the ground by the trail intersection and one lag bolt put back in.

  6. Deep hole and bypass on Alder Loop trail: 20 yards of crushed rock will be dumped on the side of 93 road where it intersects the Alder Loop trail. Where the big hole and vertical climb is, the three alder trees need to be cut about 5' high and bucked off the trail, they are between the hard and easy lines and are leaning. Use the Bobcat to haul the rock onto the easier bypass. The trail between the rock pile and bypass is pretty smooth and hopefully the Bobcat won't get stuck. We can put boulders in the really deep hole if there is a machine to load and haul them from the 9 Road pit.

  7. Rainier Vista sign is missing at the bottom of the hill. The post might still be there. Put up a new sign with 2 lag bolts.

  8. Inner Alder sign. Install new sign and post where the trail meets the 9 road.

  9. Clean out the fire pits in the campground. Use the wheel barrow and dump the old ashes way back in the woods. If there is burned trash put it in trash bags and haul it away with the other trash. Only contained metal fire pits are allowed. Fire pits made from all rock need to be dispersed.

  10. Camp spots on 9 road: there are several camp spot on the 9 road that need cleaned up. Pick up all the trash from the bushes and disperse the fire pits (throw the rocks into the bushes). Use the mini-excavator to dig a ditch at the big camp area where people are driving in the woods, leave one line from the camp spot to 9 road, block off the other 3. Haul boulders from the 9 road pit to put along the road and camp spots so people do not drive into the treed areas.

  11. Rock pit at the end of 9 road: pick up all the trash, shot up TV, shell casings and disperse the fire pits. We will provide trash bags.
  12. Pick up trash on the Sunrise Trail, look in the bushes, 10' on either side of the trail. We will provide trash bags.

  13. Pick up trash on the Mainline Trail, look in the bushes, 10' on either side of the trail. We will provide trash bags.

  14. Pick up trash on the Alder loop Trail, look in the bushes, 10' on either side of the trail. We will provide trash bags.

  15. Pick up trash on the Mainline Extension Trail, look in the bushes, 10' on either side of the trail. We will provide trash bags.

  16. Pick up trash on the Swamp Trail, look in the bushes, 10' on either side of the trail. We will provide trash bags.

  17. Pick up trash on the Gotcha Trail, look in the bushes, 10' on either side of the trail. We will provide trash bags.

  18. Pick up trash on the Rainier Vista Trail, look in the bushes, 10' on either side of the trail. We will provide trash bags.

  19. Pick up trash on the Busy Wild Trail, look in the bushes, 10' on either side of the trail. We will provide trash bags.

  20. Pick up trash along the 9 road from the shooting pit to the rock pit by the Rainier vista Trail (about 3 miles). We will provide trash bags.

  21. Disperse camp fire pits and pick up trash along 93 Road. We will provide trash bags.

Is the plan to start at the top of the list and work down or devide into groups and take care of all items at once? Whats the game plan?

The middle line that is a 4' ledge is pretty much impassable and needs a stump or log between the trees to block it off.

I not trying to start anything but who decided that this line is impassable?

I have driven this line every time I have been in Elbe for the last few months. Rigs like mine make short work of it and I (and I'm sure others with rigs like mine) would hate to loose this line.

There are three lines there right now... People have been going around to the right of the two trees... It's not that it's impassable, it's that Nancy doesn't want three lines there... We need the easy one all the way to the left, but can only have one line on the right...

So, either keep the line between the trees or the one going to the right of them... Nancy told us that she would rather have the line that's going around because further damage to the trees can become an issue...

There will be several groups handling different tasks... So, multiple things will be happening at the same time...
