Welding

What wire are you using? Hard wire cannot be ran up hill correctly. If you want to run some vertical up welds, switch to dual shield. I run .045 and 1/16" wire all day up hand, but its dual shield. You can run that wire in all positions. Hard wire is a flat only wire.

Not true hard wire can be run in all positions as well, just depends on the wire designation wether it can be run in all postions or not has nothing to do with hard wire or not, just like a 6022 weld rod can only be used in a flat postion where as a 7018 is an all postions rod, wire works the same way just depends on what ya buy:awesomework:

ya, but don't try and learn to weld uphill with 7018

Start with 6010 first it will give you a better idea of puddle control then 7018 is a piece of cake, 7018 is way easier to run to me than 6010 but like i said 6010 really gives you good puddle control

even better,, good old farmers rod.. 6013.
I find its VERY easy to weld uphill.

the correct way is up hill and creates a stronger weld FYI :awesomework::redneck::fawkdancesmiley:

But if im in a hurry i too weld downhill, but for the WABO tests that doesnt fly so i can do it either way:redneck:

Oh I know (learned that before you were born :fawkdancesmiley:) but I have never had a weld fail with my way of doing it. :awesomework:

I"d prefer a good, but shitty looking weld to cold ass no penetration good looking stacked dimes.

That is my style right now. :cheer: I think a lot of my problem is set up and practice.

The problem is I am doing a lot of different things with different thicknesses of metal. The fun one last night was but joints on 1/16" thick metal with 0.30 wires. And not burning through it.

thats actualy not easy, expecially if your just learning.

I'm not a professional welder by any means.. i can weld, i know welding well, but i don't do it enough to be really good at it.

I have a buddy of mine that i'm kind of teaching to weld.. any time i have something that needs a shitty bead ran for whatever reason, I try and let him do it, for practice.

He aske me once, is welding always this hard?
I said, no.. but if you can learn to stick weld with my old AC machine, you'll be able to weld with just about anything.

Floc that. I have a stick welder that I use to hold down the tarp on the wood pile:D

Ok, here we go.

1/16" wire, vertical. FC-71LF wire with 75/25 gas.

stick welding in alot of cases is stronger.
I'm presently, doing welding inspections here in mexico..
for overhead and vertical i have had 40% of our cupons testing poorly for 100% fusion. (Mig)
However, for vertical and overhead, we have had only 1 coupon test poorly for fusion using Stick.

I'm just happy when I pick it up and it stays together. :D

so, you work on those little machines...
we call that support equiptment..:fawkdancesmiley:

yes, my penis is bigger.. lol

What ever :looser: :redneck:

So ok now since we have all determind that I can't weld. So how do you weld upside down

Weld in austrailia? :;

I am always scared of welding overhead, the splater hurts.

Just turn it over with your loader:awesomework:

Carefully.. I usually wear safety glasses under my hood, and a hat that pulls down over my ears. It is amazing where those sparks can go. I usually use 6011, and if it is dripping down, then try to speed up, or turn down the heat.
