KOH 2021

Tom Wayes and co-driver James Schofield (from Alabama) had a wicked rollover/wreck in which two other racers (Cameron Steele and Raul Gomez) stopped on course for a couple of minutes and pulled Wayes and Schofield out of the car completely unconscious and Schofield with some broken bones.

Update from Ultra4 for both of them:
Tom Wayes has concussion.

James Schofield has broken collarbone, knee and back break from L2, L3, T5 & T6. He is going for another CT scan and then surgery on Collar bone and Knee.

@InDaShop (Wyatt) started a GoFundMe for James and his wife April. James has a long road of surgeries and recovery time ahead of him.

I know #408 Cody Hardesty qualified 37th and started the race and completed lap #1, but no idea after that. Hopefully @wizzo can chime in with that information.
WHat happen to Cody Hardesty and Cody Hardesty ?

Guys,
Cody did really well for his first attempt at KOH. Qualified in the mix with some of the best in the game. Lap 1 he kept a good pace. Lap 2 they pitted in main and took off. I was on my way in from remote pit 1. On lap 2 they ran into some issues they couldn't over come. Optima battery - top posts came out of the top off the battery. Trans lines blew out and caused a fire. Cody and Chase fixed it once but then it happened again once they got going. First fire damaged some electrical and the start. Chase ran/ jogged back to main pit to pick up a new started and some trans fluid and set back out. They did what they could but everything proved too much to overcome. We had the drive home to discuss improvements for moving forward.

Josh Thomerson (ridgetop auto) finished 4th at the shootout in his new Partially Committed Racing chassis. Pretty cool rig!

Good to know on the Hardesty's and @ridgetopauto

Who all did you end up doing shock work and pitting for while out there?

Worked with Phil Licciardi for roughly a week and tuned quite a few race and trail rigs. I don't have an exact number but some of the racers were Kevin Porterfield, Brian McVey, Chuck Crossland (4800 with long shocks), Kryptonite customs Jimmy IFS buggy, I dunno, those stick out in my still hazy mind currently.

Rode out and back with and pitted, prepped, shock tuned, etc. for Cody Hardesty's team. Chase Hunter is Cody's main co-driver. Scott Morris from Sunfire co-drove lap one b/c of his experience at KOH and desert racing.

Our team, went in with the WOD boys, Kryptonite and the Knockout guys during main race to have a bunch of help and pit 5 racers. Good times with good folks.

That's a pretty sweet lineup of folks and racers. That Kryptonite Customs/Jimmys IFS buggy was certainly something to look at!

Update from James Schofield's recovery from the KOH wreck. This was posted on 2/24/21.

Today was a good day. Got my staples out of my knee and my shoulder, they opted to leave my stitches in my knee to make sure the skin is good and attached before just taking them out. Many of you have been following along with my situation, I am grateful for all the out pouring of people that have called me or texted me or April during this deal. We have been home for a week and finally getting things figured out a little with a wheelchair and showering. April is killing it as a nurse/wife/secretary all while home schooling the kids and keeping the house going. I have definitely married a trouper. Have another follow up on Monday to get the stitches out and do some blood work. The Dr is lining me up with a neurologist for a second opinion for all my back fractures and get a game plan on them. I will keep everyone updated on what we come up with and how I am progressing. Thank you to all of your thoughts, prayers and donations. I am forever grateful for all of you. I Didn't realize how many people were involved in my situation while I was in the hospital dealing with April and Tom and Wyatt on getting things in place to get us home or feed us and handling all the logistical stuff for it all. To the Ultra4 and Drag Racing families out there you know who you are and I owe you guys/gals big time.

James Schofield was on this week's episode of The Talent Tank Podcast. He gave a ton of info on his backstory, the wreck at KOH this year, his recovery/progress, etc. Would highly recommend a listen about this fellow offroader.
