My tow rig's fat

I'm looking at buying a 2000 f250. 7.3 auto. Does this year/model have any specific flaws or qualities? Truck has 90,000 miles. Whats a good ballpark for price? Thanks!

Its either the camshaft postioning sensor or the crankshaft postioning sensor (cant remember exactly as it happened to my neighbor not me) that goes bad, but can easily be replaced by anyone with the correct socket size and about 5 minutes. My neighbor keeps one in the glove box along with the correct wrench just in case, as it has already happened to him once and i think his has 75-80 thousand on it, o and his is a 99 so same basic thing

i've got a 97 7.3 with 227k on it. i have only had to replace 1 CPS and 1 glow plug relay. truck runs like a champ beside the clutch now. that is another story and my fault though...

I just bought this one out of Oregon for $14,500

1999 F-350 Crew Cab 4x4 long bed. 7.3 Powerstroke. ONLY 93,000 MILES. Immaculate condition! Auto, AC, PW, PDL, tilt, CC, P.M., C.D., SRW, tow pkg, bed liner, 4" lift Bushwacker fender flares, weld wheels, 35" TA's.

Also had a 4" exhuast, cold air intake and programmer.

I had a 97 also that the cam sensor was replaced. Ford sent out a letter back in march of this year to all owners of 97-2003 with the 7.3l on a recall for this sensor.

Ask if the owner has this letter or had it replaced under the recall.

One more thing. Balljoints go out right around that mileage. Ask the owner if they have been replaced. Cuz if they havent been, they arent cheap to fix

What's a PMR? I've never owned a diesel before so pretend yer talkin' to a complete tool.:awesomework:

powdered metal rods.. So it's a bit of an upgrade if you want more then that 400 hp mark.. Others have handled that much on PMR's.. but 400 or a little over is a safe bet. And for your truck it'd take a decent amount of money to get there, so most don't need to worry about it.

This one's bone stock mechanically. Seems kinda like it has less ooomph than I thought it would, but it is a crewcab with a big old service box on it so she's totin' some weight. What do they produce in stock form?

If the rig isn't squatting they should still be good?

Not necessarily; just did a 2000 last week--->all4 BJ's had abit of play, but was unnoticeable to the eye when sitting on the ground.....jack it up and check for play in 'em...:awesomework:
On the cam sensor---heard they're havin problems with the updated ones too...My '97 hasn't since replaced, but I'll be calling Ford in the am...

I've been waitin for you to chime in, you always have good info. It's at a car lot so I don't know how much I can play underneath it. They want about 14K which seems about what they're goin for. Also has a welder and Honda powered compressor in box. Seems like it'd be a good rig for what I do and would fit the whole family, but Im leary about car lots and my credit ain't good enough to get a bankloan to cash it out.

Not sure what fords are puttin out stock at the tires.. But all of the older diesels like that feel like dogs. A simple box for the truck really livens them up. And you'll know it when the PMR's fail.

If you're not comfortable checking the steering/suspension out, and the lot won't let you bring the rig to someone YOU trust,(and that knows their stuff...) It'd be a BIG red flag in my book...Also, make sure the rig doesn't have a 'branded' title (rebuilt); This doesn't guarantee anything, but at least it could give you an idea of it's life on the road--Check the box mounts carefully too--if constantly over weight, this can stress the frame( look for lots of rust at the bolts/ holding box onto truck....) $13-14k seems about right if it checks out ok (a few things needed are normal for a used rig);

Thanks for the input man! I'll have to look it over better next time I go to Babylon. The salesman are callin me twice a day so I guess they want it gone. I'm gonna see if the owner of my company will loan me the down payment since it would save him from buying a company rig to tow the job trailer. The whole "branded title" thing is a really good point I completely overlooked, Thanks again!:awesomework:

Screw it....I went and did it, turns out I had better credit than I thought.

Everything but leather and a huge welder and compressor to boot.
