I'm looking to do a Exo cage on my 1989 toyota body and wanted to see if there is any laws or downfalls to having a EXO CAGE. my truck seems tippy and i do not want to destroy the body on this truck any more then it already is.

EXO = protect you and your rig's body
Internal Cage = protect you and your passengers

EXO = more weight and quite possibly higher center of gravity as there will be a lot of tubing up high.

Internal Cage = less headroom and some loss of access/room in rig.

Some people run both internal cage's and exo. Some people make their exo to be partially internal and external.

Bottom line here is its all up to you.... If you want to protect the body of your rig, exo it. If you want to protect you and your passengers and dont want the additional weight (overall and up high) then stick with an internal cage.

Depends on what type of wheelin you do. If you wheel tight trails with lots of trees exo cages suck. They hang up on the trees and make it harder.
As far as not f--king your body up does a rig covered with tube look any better than smashed up body parts?
Good sliders and just a little tube in the right places works pretty good.

I've been struggling with this too. I think I told you this weekend I was planning on doing an interior cage on mine, but don't really wanna lose the room. My problem with exo's is that most of em are fugly as ****!:puke: But after seeing this one over on pirate, I think I'm gonna do an exo just like it. It doesn't seem to have tube puked all over it, is close to the body and has real clean lines. Also it looks like it will still allow you to remove the hard top.

I need to remove this stupid body lift

center of gravity is way to high already and a exo cage will only make it worse. the problem i have is clearancing the fenders to clear the shock hoops and fender wells. Thanks for the reminding me about that!

now is a Exo Cage street legal:masturbanana[1]:

LMAO!! your a stupid ass clown Kevin!!!

That guy has the coolest cage ever! looks like he robbed a kids play set and welded it to his truck with 30" tires.....LOL!!

We can have that body lift out and fenders clearanced in no time! Just let me know when you want to do it!:awesomework:

As for legality, I don't believe thay are legal, but I don't think most cops will **** with you. I'm sure someone will throw up some rcw's. I'm lazy and don't feel like searching.

Here's a couple jungle gyms for ya before I go to work.

even the orange one has too much tube going on.

a GOOD cage wont use up too much space.
i think for mine, id do a cage, with a few strategically placed bars outside tied into the cage. im not so much worried about the body, as i am the glass.

I agree! need to protect glass more then body as mine already has alot of damage....... glass keeps the cold out! the orange one has some very sharp bends to it at the bumper that must be pre bent/casted 90's welded on. there is no way that i know even with a great bender to get that sharp of a 90 degree bend so perfect

There was a black 2nd gen 4runner (90up) at the swapmeet with an exo. Did you guys see it? it was over by the grandstands out side.

I have a internal done by Crash I think the cage is sweet. The truck body may differ on this since me and the porta power are gonna meet it again this week:haha:Once I got my fatass used to the door bars we were good plenty of headroom.I would never do a exo I will just remain friends with the porta power

I saw that one. WAY too much tube for my tastes. I think I'm still leaning towards internal. My body's still pretty straight, but I'm sure that's gonna change real quick though after a couple of runs with my driving style!:redneck:
