Is anybody on here running their air filter/intake through the firewall? I'm looking for ideas for my intake, as I'm pressed for space under the hood. I've got a couple ideas for it passing through the firewall, but wanted to see some others. :corn:

I've seen a lot of guys with LS series v8 swaps flip the intake backwards, and the air cleaner pokes inside the firewall. I saw it over on pirate, but can't find it by searching firewall intake, or ls1 firewall air cleaner, so you'd have to dig. I don't have one personaly, thought i'd throw that out there though.

The big issue isn't IF you can do it. That's a given. It's WHERE you can fit it thru. On my CJ5, I removed the front air intake bracket from the grill, and mounted it *just* above the battery, right under the hood lip. Cut a whole in the firewall, and ran the air intake hose from the air cleaner to the firewall. The inside of the dash had the air intake arriving just above the heater box and behind the glove box.

I was tempted to do the same on both my YJ and on my TJ, however the battery trays on both of those are slightly higher, and there isn't enough room.

I run it through the firewall on my YJ (ok, what used to be a YJ), should be some pics over on SNORT, Maulers buggy is that way as well.

Thanks guys, I've got it routed now, just need to make a flange at the firewall and get a 3" boot. I knew I could do it this way, I've seen a couple different variants of it, I was more looking for different ideas on how it passes through the firewall, and where you routed it under the dash. I ended up using a piece of 3" exhaust tube with a couple bends in it to get through the firewall and up under the dash enough to feel safe with it's height. There have been times where my passenger ends up hanging from the cage due to intruding mud and water, so I wanted to make sure it was high and dry. I basically just referenced the old highwater mark, and went a little higher. :redneck:

I'll post up some pics a little later, gotta finish the trans tunnel before I mount it all up. :awesomework:

Oh, and I'm not cool enough to be on Snort. :booo: :haha:

Well, this is what I came up with, nothing special, but it should work.

I'm going to make a flange in the middle of the tube to mount it to the firewall and be able to seal it up. Also need to make a bracket to hold the aircleaner/MAF, and find a boot to connect it to the tube.

isn't your cab going to smell like fuel all the time and that hissing sound...won't that get old after a while?

do you really ford water THAT deep anyways?

kinda what i was thinking..
hissing mostly would annoy me.

ditto, my tbi is annoying when its under the hood, dont want that sound in the cab.

What a bunch of ****ing Nancy's:rolleyes: are you afraid the aircleaner is going to block the spot where your purse normaly sits.......jesus christ:rolleyes::flipoff:

**** yeah I can hear my motor gulping air......it's the sound of FREEDOM:011::011::011::redneck:

No, there isn't a nancy here.. just an Alice.

Nancy, who's Nancy? I was just pointing out a few things that came to mind when I saw this set-up. If it doesn't bother you, cool, it's your rig. Wouldn't it have been more "cool" to have rigged up an ARB snorkel! OH YEAH! :fawkdancesmiley::rolleyes:

 The main reason I put it under the dash is space constraints. Try putting 3 gallons of **** in a quart jar and tell me how it goes for you.

The zook is an open top with only a bikini top in the summer and soft windowless doors in the winter. There is plenty of airflow to not have to worry about fumes.

It's funny I started this thread asking to see pictures, and aside from a couple helpful responses, I see no pictures, just a bunch of bitching and complaining. :fawkdancesmiley:

Here's a pic of Patches' intake right in front of the passenger---And I didn't smell any fumes all day! :awesomework: There, you got what you wanted...a pic!!!:fawkdancesmiley:
