Grinding sound when I let off the gas?

I looked through the end of your build thread to see if you were running a pillow block/two piece front D-line.......couldn't tell from the pics I saw.

Also it's important to get this "right" for jumping purposes. The d-lines have to behave enough to function AT SPEED.....AT FULL DROOP or your gonna throw parts.

any slop in the rear gears? how much can you turn the dline?

pull the cover and take a look.

my guess is its something with the rear gearset.

They are new.. Not rusty, fresh grease, They just need to be tapped to get in and out.. they are not sloppy and worn out like your sister. :flipoff: Just kidding man... Im sure she is nice.

When you (over) grease them does excess grease squirt out the yoke on the female end?

If so that would eliminate this as the cause. Always good to try the simple things first before throwing money & time at a problem.

I had a brand new driveline once that I kept greasing but they forgot the hole in the yoke so it would not compress when it was full of grease.

I agree with wanting to get it right as it is not an old rig and should not be making noises yet. :D

I do run a 2 piece home brew front DL with a 2 bolt flange type pillow block as seen below. This is what I just completely took apart and made sure everything was greased and tight... I could not find any issues like odd wear marks and nothing was loose when It came apart.. I am leaning to the pinion bearing or gears now.

Thanks for the info, both DL have a nice size hole in the spline cap. :awesomework:

What this all adds up to is with the information we have here on the internet we're all just guessing. It could potentially be most any moving parts on the whole vehicle but most likely it's where a moving part interacts with a part moving slower or not moving.........In otherwards it could be anything.......If you had a buggy which made no funny sounds then clearly you would just need to start it and drive it.:awesomework:

Did you drive the rig with the front driveline removed? My front 2 piece shaft with one of those pillow blocks makes all kinds of racket.

The guts of the axles are what was in them when I got them ........................ and I did the weld jobs. I never messed with anything in there.

He said they are welded. Try reading all the words instead of just the first few. :flipoff:

:flipoff: I read this to mean he did welding on the axle, like maybe tube ends or something.....

When you were in there to do the welding did you inspect the bearings or find any bad/loose bearings?

Take the entire from D-line and run it.... See what it does.

I had to rebuild my pillow block location to get rid of most of the sound you are describing.....it is alot better now but still growls at speed. My $ is on the rigid mounted pillow block/front driveline angles.

I think you all are onto something... I am gonna put the rig on my friends lift and run it with and without the front DL in. Its hard to remember but I did test drive it without the front DL back with I was building it... cant remeber any odd sounds.. so the front pillow block may be the problem. This was kinda the first time I had it up to 35-45 mph so it was making a little noise. Other then that it drove well at that speed.. time to kick it up a notch. :redneck:

Sorry rick.. I did do all the welding on the tubes also but I welded the diffs cause my broke ass cant afford lockers right now.

When I had everything apart nothing looked or felt wrong.. I had both carriers out and cleaned and inspected and everything checked out. I then on install had my buddy do it to check for backlash... all was good.
