What's the best method to unstick a distributor on a 460???

Don't really like the idea of prying or such...

Heard you can spray the base everyday for a week with penetrating oil... That's about as productive as watching paint dry...

Anyone got any tips???

heat it with a propane torch where the dizy mates to the manifold, then rub a candle on there, it will wick the parifin into the seam, then pop it out

I had the same problem with my 460. I sprayed it with PB blaster for a couple days and worked it loose with a big pair of channel locks. Then while turning I gave it alittle prying up to get it out. Good luck.

--use a small propane torch to heat up around the base (but not too hot) , spray some PB Blaster around the base, and work the dizzy back and forth (probably with vise grips, or channel locks)...these can be a BITCH!!! Patience and persistance....:awesomework: I've had to use a punch and hammer to break one free...keep sprayin' & workin' it back and forth....

Luey, wanna borrow my special "ford tool kit"?

I'm assuming your not useing this distributor anymore. Wrap a chain around the distributor, hook a cherry picker to the chain and start lifting. I've done this on a gm once. It will pop!

I was just trying to bump the timing a bit... It falls on it's face under a load, cap, rotor, wires and plugs look good... Getting fuel... I'm guessing it's been a while since anyone has timed it being that the dizzy is stuck this bad...

I like the Ford tool kit...:redneck:

But, it's a buddies truck that I borrowed... He picked it up not to long ago and hasn't used it yet, so I was just trying to get it to a point that the throttle can actually be used...

I'm gonna try a strap wrench on it tomorrow if it doesn't come loose today...

Had this happen on Ford 400's before.. if the penetrating oil and torch doesn't work, it is easiest to pull the manifold w/ the dissy in it, and hammer it out from the bottom...

The drissy dosn't go through the intake on a 460. It's in the block between intake and timing cover.

Got it unstuck...:cheer:

Messed with the timing and that's not the problem...:booo:

There's an inline thing that I thought was a fuel filter, but it has 3 ports unlike a typical inline filter... It looks like a regular inline fuel filter, but there's a port with another hard line going into the side of it... I'm thinking it's probably a return line... Mind you, I'm not a ford guy and don't know **** about them...

Stopped by Shmucks and they carry the inline filter with 2 ports and the filter at the carb... Nothing that matches this though...

It does the stalling thing on both fuel tanks...

I read somewhere that there's a switch on the oil pressure sending unit that can cause this same type of problem... That seems really odd to me... But what do I know, I'm just a Chevy guy that owns a few tools...

Anyone know what the inline thing is??? Is it a filter or some kinda check valve??? Am I over thinking this???

What do you guys think???
