Tow Rig Tires

Seems every tire you read the reviews, SOMEONE has a bitch about them...some were way worse than others. I did read quite a few reviews on the Duratrac....and it seems for the heavier Diesel rigs, they are too squishy for those that run their trucks alot ....sidewall is too soft, giving the heavier trucks wandering issues, and pushing thru corners, problems that weren't there prior to their tires being changed. So take that FWIW...:D

FWIW, I've got two customers who have a few thousand miles on their Duratrac's now, both switched from Toyo MT's. One on 2500 Ram diesel and one on Super Duty diesel. Both report quieter ride, better road manners, and better handling.

Alright, I went with the duratracs. So far so good, its only been a few days but the ride nice. My only complaint thus far is the fact that on a dually I will need to add some spacers to eliminate any buldge issues when loaded heavy...265 75 16 e

Yes I read what the wide was, however I didn't account for the extra side luggs these have and I don't think there posted measurements do either.:eeek:

Close you eyes...now imagine 1/2"-3/4" with side lugs consuming the gap between the tires. :redneck:
 
Here is a picture of the distance from the top. Unloaded its not much different at the bulge.:eeek:

I don't think it'll hurt anything if they were to rub. It's not like they're rotating at different RPM, they're bolted together. About the ony thing I can fathom is if a sharp object (rock) got pinched in the gap, I supposed it could chafe enough to cause a leak..... but I think that's not likely.

On another subject, I had a slight clearance issue with my TJ's coils and the beadlocks I got from Trailready. Jeff cut me a spacer out of some leftover 1/2 aluminum stock. You might try something like this between the inner & outer wheels.
 
We have a program on the CNC burn table at work. I could possibly burn some spacers out of steel to put some space between the wheels. Would need to know the lug pattern, and hole size in the middle.

it's not rotational rubbing, it's the two touching. any given part of the tire hits then lets go, then hits again as it goes around and around. It causes friction and heats up, then when you hit a bump it's even worse.

They make plenty of spacers out there just for this. I appreciate the offer though.

"egg sack lee" As they heat up I imagine premature wear of the side walls causing possible failure (blow out maybe):shrug:. I am going to toss 1/4" or 1/2" spacers in there. If it still too close, 1 1/2" will take care of it.:redneck:
 
Good rule of thumb is 3/4 to 1" of space between...Yeah, under most circumstances, the space currently shouldn't be an issue---but loaded, yeah, I'd be a little concerned....over time for sure....
