So my motor on my horizontal band saw quite literally went up in flames. It was quite old but prior to the motor it worked perfect..

I got it from tool town and was made by "foremost machinery" but it seems they are no longer in biz. The saw looks identical to the one harbor has thats made by "central machinery" but I can't find any separate listing for a motor for there unit.

My saw number is "MAMB 128"

Any help finding a replacement would be great.

You should be able to get a motor from Grainger. I am assuming that it is a belt driven saw. If so, then the dimensions of the motor (so it lines up properly) and the output are all you really need. Grainger can be a pain for an individual to deal with, but I would be really surprised if your shop doesn't have an account. If not, I am sure that there is someone on here with an account.

they are not cheap... but these guys have a very large selection...

tough to match up the enclosure from your pic... but these can be a starting point and go out from there i guess...

there are quite a few choices.. these are just what my 5-minutes of googling showed for "tool/machinery replacement motors"

and of course, there are a lot of other brands too...

ok.. so I spent another 5 minutes...

found the replacement motor for a "grizzly" band saw which is very similar to a harbor freight one..

here is the link for their replacement motor... and it is like $105

linky

if the rest of the specs and mounting will match your, it is reasonably priced

There is nothing on the outer part of the motor that says anything about the manufacture of the motor. I suppose I could pull it open to see if there is anything in there.

But thanks for the links I will look them over and see if I can find something and I will compare that one that grizzly has..

they also have links to other motors as well near the bottom of that page, so make sure to check them out..

I just know that the one that the link pulls up was what a guy used to replace his burnt out band saw motor (which incidently caught fire on him too) and he mentioned that it has worked very well with the better motor..

If you're in need of one soon, you might try taking the old one to these guys:

Canyon Motor Rewind
502 Maple Avenue
Snohomish, WA 98290-2530
(360) 568-4171

From my dealings with them, they're not cheap, but do good work with quick turn-around.

This looks like the motor. The only thing I don't get is it shows 2 different motors in the picture :eeek:

yeah.. looking further into their site, they just have two of the styles in the same pic (stock photos of both chassis styles)...

but from what I researched, that part number has been used to replace the motors on many tools, such as the band saws..

and the price is really reasonable...
