Hi All:

Looking for some assistance to make a TBI conversion run a bit better.

Any suggestions for GM TBI gurus in Washington State?

Thanks much!

Alan

I can't really claim to be a TBI guru, but I've done a few conversions and some tuning.

Give us some details on what you're working on and what troubles you're having. What year TBI are you using? Which ECM?

Log on to www.justih.org or www.binderplanet.org. Go to the Fuel Injection section(s) and track down billusn-1. He's in Whidbey Island and has got a pretty good handle on these things. Started his own business called Hamilton Fuel Injection or something like that even. Might even have a web-site.

Good guy, knows his ****. Spend some time to search those particular forums and see if your issues have been discussed. Then post with some specifics or try to get ahold of him directly and see what he can do for you.

I know a couple guys closer have burners. So they may be able to help with that phase.

Hi All:

Thanks for the reply.

I recently installed a custom TBI system on a '78 Land Cruiser 2F (I-6) engine. It uses a 4.3L throttle body, ECM with a custom chip, heated O2 sensor, coolant sensor, and vacuum sensor.

After some trouble shooting we got it running. What I have noticed is the idle speed (after warming-up) is like ~1100 RPM, while stock with the old carb was around 650 RPM.

It runs fine, I would just like a lower idle speed so I can lug it down while descending hills, etc.

Thanks.

Alan

OK, you guys woke me up so I'm here!!!

That's for the compliments guys. I definately didn't write the book on TBI. I just spent a lot of time learning from others along the way and then shared what I learned.

It's been a while since I was on this board. haven't wheeled much since retiring from the navy and starting my own little side business.

So on to Alan.

Where are you located? I don't see many locations on people here, unless "on your back porch" is a location. A drive by is always good!

You have a 4.3 TBI on an I6 toyota. Is the ecm a 7747?
Have you burned a custom chip for it so it matches your engine? If not, what is the 4 letter BCC code on the chip. like ATKD?
Have you jumpered pin A and B of the aldl connector and turned the key on to read codes?

Have you performed the initial setup procedures listed in the FAQ's on the BP site?

Have you performed the voltage checks on your system?(see attachment)

Have you verified the inlet and return fuel pressures at idle and under a load?

And for the rest reading...these are all basic things that should be checked for each installation.

Good morning Bill. Welcome back!

Your posts/info on Binder site was the info that allowed me to EFI my AMC 401. I'm greatful. Thanks again. And that's why I referenced that you 'wrote the book', as the info was superb.

Tony

PS... hope you are enjoying retirement.

Hi All:

Thanks for the reply Bill!

Wow! Now I know how my weekend will be spent! :D

Give me some time to figure this stuff out - I'm not very knowledgeable about FI systems.

Regards,

Alan

Awesome, I have been trying to take care of the same problem. Just a different set up. Thanks for the great info Bill.

Alan If you figure it out let us know.

Keith,
Just follow the same guidelines.
If you used an older TBI setup it's all the same.
Initial setup procedures can tell you a lot if you follow them and pay attention to what is happening.

Oh, and make sure there is nothing connected to the green AC signal wire...yet!
And don't connect the pk/n wire either.

Thanks Bill! Browsed over info looks like it will help a bunch.

Unfortunatly will not get to it for a few weeks. Time to give the shop some much needed attention.
