So it's gettin to be that time of year and :afro:'s dont like to get out in the cold sooo, can somebody point me in the right direction for a good remote starter for the 4runner. Just looking for the no thrills model, dont want or need an alarm. Just a good brand that works. What ya got?

if you just want remote start, and no other auxiliary features (roll-up/down windows, alarms, heated seats, rear defrost, etc, etc), then pretty much anything will work fine.

Do you even have power door locks? (do you want remote lock/unlock?)

Checkout onlinecarstereo. Pretty good deals on there. Nick's right, they're pretty much all the same. What year 4runner? You might need to order a bypass also if it has any kind of antitheft on it. The12volt will have a wire guide for it too. Makes installing pretty painless.

Only buy dei (viper Clifford python. .....) and don't let joe shade tree install it if u buy what ever the support if u have problems it sucks just my opinion and I do it everyday

Its a 97 limited so yea power everything. its got the factory alarm/ keyless entry remote. I just dont ever use it, i go old school and just use the key. Keep it simple and whatnot. But the crawlers in the garage and i take my little girl to school so it would be nice to have it toasty. Id be down for just the start, are the other bells and whistles worth it?

I guess that's what I meant also, haven't ever looked into anything not made by Directed. http://www.directed.com/Brands/

never had a problem with any of them, I have a viper on my duramax and my wifes 99 4runner

I wish I had this on my tow rig AND my Saturn. I had it on my old 97 F-150 as a birthday gift from my high school girlfriend lol Such an awesome feature! Never have broke down and put it on any other vehicle since :wtflol:

Re:

Make the trip to Florence Alabama and get Steve @ audiox to do it up. Or you can try brad Eubanks in dickson. Which ever is closer

My gf bought me one a few years ago from bestbuy for Xmas .
She said it was around 300 buck. Remote says "avital".
I love it , esp during cold mornings.
I wanna put one on the "new to me"cummins but I'm worried I'll leave it in gear and start it and it will end up going thru the fence at the house :/

Anyways here's it is

I would only go dei. I installed for circuit city roadshop for 10 years and have had nothing but good luck with them. I've installed just about every make of remote start and dei products have always lasted. I had a really old viper 550esp on my bmw with the window and sunroof open and close functions along with the remote start. It never gave me a second of trouble. I also 100% believe that the person installing it has all the control of how pleasant the experience is. Don't go for the cheapest and make sure they know the product and the vehicle they are working with. There are tons of great products that have gotten bad names cause some fart knocker didn't know what he was doing.
