Okay it's happened several times now, randomly, I will be driving and the Motor will start sputtering, then I'll notice the propane tank fitting is usually frosted over and frozen... Was riding today and it happened in the whole propane tank was frosted over. Try looking the subject could not find anything, was thinking it may be some kind of leak but I have checked and tightened everything to make sure there's not... Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

X2 on the leaking... I had an old steel tank, went to have it "updated" and they guy told me it was just a bad tank overall. Swapped him for a newer tank and never had any other sissies when I was running pane

change the o rings out in your tanks one or both of them are bad they will dry rot or get little tears in them and cause them to leak and ice up like your talking about.

You didn't mention how long you have been running before this problem occurs. You could have one of several problems. If the whole tank is freezing up the engine is sucking vapor out of the tank and not liquid. Generally when you see a component freezing up there is a restriction causing an "expansion valve" effect like in an air conditioner.

Check to see how your tank is positioned. The fuel tube in the tank could be drawing vapor instead of submerged in liquid in the tank. That will cause the engine to run lean under power. Usually it will start and idle fine but have no power and misfire.

Attached is a cutaway tank showing the location of the fuel tube.

If that is not the problem get back with me and I will help you sort it out.

Now thats a hell of a diagram. It seems it's always after I have been running for a little while when it happens. I was thinking about O-rings, also the way I position the tank. I've never been sure what the best position for it to be. The tanks themselves have O-rings I believe not the fuel line connection correct? I've noticed at the end of my fuel line the part that screws on the tank does not have an O ring , one of my tanks has an O-ring in the end of the valve and the other one does not... I have seen the tanks and so many different positions I didn't think it mattered... These O rings just tyipcal O rings or made just for propane tanks? Thanks for the help. And thanks for tha pic. Def answers some questions i have wondered about.. My tanks lay horizontal just never been sure which way to put the valve. Thanks again fellas.

The pick up tube could be broke off inside the tank, and not be picking up liquid. Ive had a couple tanks that the valve was bad also, and caused it to freeze up too. It does matter which direction the valve is pointed when you lay the tank down horizontal, especially if its only about half full, and even more so if you're running a 425 mixer and a v8 that uses more fuel than just a 4cyl. I always ran mine where the pick-up in the tank was pointed down and slightly to the back.

There a slot on the top of the tank which is supposed to be up in tanks is horizontal, you can see it in buddy's picture. It opposite of the " handle or big cutout on top"

the slot is there for the pin on a forklift mount. To make sure it is mounted right. Should be on the bottom.
