I've been running fork lift tanks ,but had a guy give me a tank off a rv that would fit between my finder's on my jeep making it easier to put a seat back in .But don't know if it would work with my set up on my engine I'm new to running propane and don't know a lot about what will work and won't any help would be appreciated thanks

I am interested in finding too but I have a tank from a old tractor I think. Looks like it is near the size of a 100lb tank with the fittings on the side instead of end.

Re:

It needs to be a liquid valve, which basically means it has an internal pickup like a gas tank. This is why there is an orientation hole to lineup to make sure the tank is mounted properly, as the pick up is straight to the end of the tank then curves to one side, so you mount it in a way that it curves toward the bottom when laying horizontal.

100 lb is damn big. Mine are 10 gallon/43.5 lb I think, just a bit bigger than forklift bottles. Other than that, I don't know of any reason it would make a ****. I keep a standard grill bottle with me for a reserve tank. It will barely run mounted like normal since it's a vapor tank (has no pickup, just works off vapor emitted, as liquid propane gathers in the lowest point.), but I can turn it upside down and strap it down and it runs like a champ.

That big a tank, if it's not a liquid tank that has a pickup in it, you are shooting yourself in the foot unless you can mount it upside down. And of course the obvious, if the fitting matches up with your fuel line. I don't know **** about a tank with side fittings, but I couldn't imagine it being a liquid tank with a pickup and having the valve in the middle of the tank.

A tank from an RV is a vapor withdrawal tank and seldom ever have a liquid port and pickup tube in them. If you send me the model # from the data plate I can check on it. RV tanks are for low volume appliances and heaters that do not have enough demand to require liquid and a vaporizer.
Give me a call if you have questions. I also might have a customer interested in the RV tank.

Here's a cut away of a fork lift propane tank, liquid pickup if anyone is interested in how it picks up. Like JD said, the orientation hole lines up with the pickup tube.

Re:

A vapor tank will crank an engine and run it (or at least it will mine), it just won't hardly feed it with any sort of throttle applied....until I turn the tank upside down.

nice cut away pic. that should help alot of people out if they have never seen one before. :dblthumb:

Thanks, I found that on the interwebs after acouple of the guys and myself were discussing the best way to mount a propane tank for optimum fuel pickip, sideways, bottom of tank facing rearwards at a slight angle, etc.... I have seen folks run them all different ways.

Thanks for showing that cutaway photo. That is my display tank. I posted that photo several years ago on Hardline and Pirate.
It would probably be a good idea to include a copy of that photo in any propane kit we sell so you would know how to properly
mount the tank(s).

Re:

I had a buddy run a large tank like that in a buggy but he took it out becaus we he complained that it would slosh too much and got annoying at times.

Thanks for that pic, i am the type that needs to see pictures. I have used it several times when we get into discussion about the pickups and the slot orientation. ;D

Thanks for all the help. You have answered several of my questions especially with the pics.
