Buggy specific trailers.

I need to start telling people they can't use my trailer. Every time it comes back something is ****ed up and I gotta fix it.

I recently started doing the same after my trailer was returned with a nail in one tire and they somehow lost my spare. People don't give a **** if it isn't theirs.

I actually sold my 18' car hauler because it had just turned into a loaner trailer. I always pull the 34' tag with 2 rigs whenever we go riding.... So I just sold the 18' to my buddy that borrowed it the most laughing1

I still have a little 12' single axle but I use it as a scrap trailer, and no one wants to haul my scrap off for me just to borrow the trailer. I do get the "Hey let me know when you haul that scrap off so I can borrow that little trailer" ...... Yeah...OK :gtfo: :flipper:

there is nothing practical about wheeling, and limited room at home for parking it is one of my reasons.

so. doesn't mean you can't have a flat trailer the same width and length and then be able to use it for other things ;)

I want to build one like Ken Blume's hauler. No suspension, but he says the trailer tire and buggy suspension soak up the shock of the road. Gonna start on one soon.

Did this start out as a trailer for hauling round bails of hay? A few local farmers have some that look very similar but 2 or 3 times the length. ???

Re: Buggy only trailers.

I've thought about buying a nice trailer to haul my rig on, and keep my 16' just as a loaner. Everybody else uses it more than I do.

And this 34' trailer is NICE!

No, Ken built one for an EB, then built one for himself. It's made out of a bunch of 3" pipe and square tube, purpose built for this.

Re: Buggy only trailers.

One thing to note on most of these, is that they do not have suspension. They rely on the vehicles suspension. I like the idea, but bet the would jump all over the place if they were pulled unloaded.

Re: Buggy only trailers.

There wouldn't be any reason to pull one unloaded since the only thing that would fit on it would be the buggy it was made for.

*edit* I should've titled this thread "buggy specific trailers* instead of "buggy only" so I didn't sound like so much of an illiterate hillbilly. :dunno:

Re: Buggy only trailers.

I'd say Ken carries enough parts to just about rebuild his buggy if anything happened.

What if you got a flat and your pins in axle won't line up? Knuckle ripped off and you gotta load it backwards? Single axle is gonna wreck you with a buggy on it backwards.

Might save some money but I think reasons to not build this way out weigh the reasons to build it this way.

Re: Buggy only trailers.

Good point about the pins, but I haven't ripped a knuckle off in 15 years of wheeling so that doesn't concern me much. I can see how a purpose built trailer isn't for everyone, and they aren't as practical as a normal trailer. But once again nothing about wheeling is practical, and for the guys that just like to build cool **** they are pretty awesome. :****:

Re: Buggy only trailers.

16ft bobcat hauler added 20in. Platforms 95in. Wide. Works good to haul full size rigs.

Thanks 5BrothersFabrication. Looked like it could of been made out of one. :dblthumb:

Keep in mind that someday you may have to try to load your rig up missing a knuckle or an axle after a bad day on the trails

Yep, it may work for some, but I think the buggy specific trailer idea is kind of a waste of money. Flat bed just makes the most sense. Seen plenty good deals on 16-18' dovetail car haulers, all metal floor like mine and some with wood floor.

Then what happens when you want to sell your rig, some might want the trailer with the rig, but if they got their own trailer setup already, you'll basically end up giving your trailer away with whoever buys the rig, or have a hard time selling it by itself, and letting it go for nearly nothing just to get it gone.

I live by the rule, don't invest money into anything that will be hard to sell....I view buggy specific trailers as a bad investment. Just my $0.02 fwiw.

Re: Buggy only trailers.

When I build a permanent trailer for my 120" wheelbase, it will be kept for as long as I keep the truck, probably forever. Or until I build my next 120" truck. :****:

Re:

I think you build it as a mixture of both. Buggy specific recesses where the tires sit and a flat deck in the center. You could even make the recesses removable so that you could add on more flat deck on the outside if needed

Re: Buggy only trailers.

i've used my trailer for SO many things around the house and property, it's really a good investment to just get a normal trailer and take care of it and don't let anyone ever borrow it ::)
