Here is how it's mounted, I don't see the use of the spring either

You can move the lower nut to the upper side, with the upper nut and lock them together to get another 1/4 inch or so. Then the spring is compressed and it won't jiggle around.

So what does it actually do? Looks like if the clevis floated the spring would push out making slack in the strap. Why can't you just leave it off?

in this setup it would not be necessary, but in different applications the spring would go against the tab and the jam nuts against the spring. Basically it would act as a tensioner until the spring collapsed.

Edit: Say you order a strap 2" shorter than shock length. Over time it strecthes, you can adjust the clevis and the spring keeps it tight. Clear as mud?

I see it now, the spring on the oposite side of the mount from the axle would let the clevis float and keep tension on the strap, der.... :drinkers:

Well, being I'm not a racer or bouncer I don't see the use of the spring at all.
The spring rate looks too light and the spring to flimsy to last long with cycling.
Why would they be omitted here?

Because they didnt want the spring feature. In an offroad situation I see the spring being useless.

David I see the spring in extension, but what other than to take up 1/2" of slack would that serve?

If its mounted on the other side, at full droop the weight would could bind the spring and seeing as how thin it is would eventually crush it leaving the clevis loose.

The spring does not hold the weight of the axle. It only keeps the clevis from bouncing around.

This drawing might be the best example of how to use it to it's fullest.

The threads end towards the bottom, because the rod is getting larger. That's why the spring is there.

The spring looks useless in both of those drawings, and I can't believe we've went on this long about a ****ing spring on a clevis! :****:

Goodness...
Look guys.. they are important! I didn't limit mine as soon as we redid the 4 link on mine and I added airshocks, wasn't thinking about limiting them....Idiotic...3 rides in the shaft popped out of the bottom end cap. Sucks.
Limit them 2 inches shorter, they are gonna stretch at least an inch, then you should be in good shape.
