Before powder coat??

I'm getting to the point in my build where I'm ready for powder coat. What all do u guys make sure to get mounted/welded up besides the normal stuff like the drivetrain radiator trans/steering coolers seats an so on I've got all that. I just wanna make sure I'm not leaving anything out.

I will post a pic of where I'm at ASAP. I've been going through everything in my head an All I think I lack is my bump stops. I hope to order them next week an it will be ready for some powder. Thanks for any replies.

I'm also gonna get front an rear light bar tabs welded in before hand also.

What about limit strap brackets. Winch brackets resivor/ catch can brackets :dunno: hard to tell from pic u posted
 
The honest answer is everything. I completely built mine then tore it apart. The small things will get you. Such as we welded botls on mine to use as ground lugs. Two under dash, two by battery and two by the relays. Make sure any mounts needed for skid plates are on there. Any trick tabs you might want for body panels or ect. Tabs for harnesses, tabs/bolts or whatever you are going to hold hydraulic/brake lines, electrical lines, botls or tabs to mount computer, fuel pump and such.
 
Best way I found is run/ride it b4 you tear down for powder then all the little things u missed or can't think of stands out and you don't have to weld/grind powder coat off
 
Def. take it out and ride it a time or two before you tear down for powder coat.
 
Something that I always suggest for someone building a buggy is a bar on the passengers side to brace their feet against, people put a handle to hang on to but nothing but the sheet metal floor or lexan to put their feet on.
 
ive got all limit strap ground straps skid plate tabs harness tabs an such i was just looking for ideas to watch out for thanks for yalls replys.

i thought hard on getting it done an takin it out for a ride before powder but i wanna go ahead an do it now
 
an im gonna mount my steering res on the motor. i havent thought about catch cans yet i will put that on my list.. what all do yall run catch cans on just the trans??

i got a rollover valve for the fuel cell an gonna run a loop of fuel line after that.

Also all my brake/fuel lines an wiring im gonna use the rubber coated hose clamps so i can mount them after powder.
 
Man y'all suck lol I was really hoping to be coated by the end of January an I still may go ahead an do so. I'm gonna make a good list of everything I can think of an take it out in the shop with me an see what all I got/don't.


What is everyone using for a trans catch can??

That's what I was thinking. An if I needed something else I could drill a small hole for a rivet nut.
 
Im bringing this back to the top because I have a few questions about powder coating a chassis.

First thing, how would you prep the chassis for riding pre-powder coat. What I am referring to is how do you keep it from rusting when you have to clean it?

Next, how much can I expect to have to pay to get a chassis powder coated. I know that is a broad question, but I am looking for an idea. Also if anyone has a good place in Tennessee that they could reccommend that would be awesome.

Wipe it down with WD-40 or something of that nature before riding and after you bring it home and wash it. I rode mine for a year and a half before I tore it down to powdercoat it. It's a PITA to clean raw tube though, just FYI. Mine never got terrible and I rode in all conditions.

Price for powdercoat and sand blasting I'd expect to pay in the $1000 range. Mine was a color that required clear coat so I think it was a touch more. You end up paying a little more to sand blast one that's been riden a while but it's worth it IMO. No surprises to grind through the fresh powdercoat and weld on.
