I'm sure some of you have seen this build and the drama that came with it on pirate 4x4, but here is my Custom jeep YJ. What started as "lets put a cage and new suspension under it "turned into this complete rebuild. At this point I should have gone buggy lol. Drivetrain is Built 5.0 302, C4, Atlas II , Dana 60,14b

Started with a BEAT tub and cage after my roll in Hot Springs, Really wanted to start fixing the booty fab and there was a lot!

Went with a Mad mac front frame kit which helps with uptravel, It should have a flat belly height of 22-23 on 42's

I really loved EB customs Gin & Juice buggy so I wanted my a-pillars to go through the cowl like it. He ended up skinning the whole thing in 3/16's

The whole time I let chris at ORS kindof have free reign with it, was a great idea because it's such a unique jeep now but bad because it took way longer than expected

Since it will never have doors again he cut the door jams out

How the a-pillars tie into the frame, The main whoops and supports for the cage are .188w DOM. Everything else is .120W DOM

How all the tubes join up over the driver/passenger seats

Then I finally got it from him after 14 months of being in Arkansas, took it home to my buddies garage so we can finish it there. I don't have all the tools needed and he was a body guy for 25 years so it helps.

Made the tub removable from the frame so It would be easier to work on in the future, plus build

Took it to paint last weekend

How it looks as of today

Now I just need to get the tub ready for paint which will be the same color as the frame, it's more of a satin black with a little gloss in it. Almost matches the label for jack daniels which i'm happy about :****:. Cage is going to powder here soon along with some small items, it will be a color changing "Whiskey" color that looks orange in the sunlight and brownish in the dark.

How much does it weigh? :cougar:

Not bad actually, honestly I say it weighs similar to what it did before but I won't know until it gets run across some scales. We took off a lot of heavy stuff but added some as well.

ole jeep looks good But I am interested in the "booty" fab that you speak of ....I remember this jeep having relatively clean fab work on it

Oh yea, I definitely remember seeing this on Pirate. Haha. I really do like the fab work that was done on it though. The a pillar landing on the cowl is exactly the look I'd like if I did a wrangler buggy. Although, yea the question would be if I want the tube/tub removable or not.

The cage work was good, it help together pretty well for a hard roll and saved both my passenger and myself. But the link set-up was a joke, I bent a coilover shaft from normal riding because of how much that front end would walk and the cradle someone built would drag everything. Some of the stuff welded to the frame was obviously done with a stick welder and by someone who couldn't use it very well. The wiring was so bad on this jeep i'm surprised it never caught fire in the woods.

Chris did a bang-up job on the rebuild. I miss going over to his shop to see the evolution of your Jeep.
X2

Yeah he did, never imagined it would have turned out this nice. Why i'm doing everything properly and not just throwing it back together, have to do justice to his fab work.

I was wondering what happened to this jeep, had a lot of great times in it, heres some pics of it when I got it and when I sold it, it was leaf sprung when I built it. I had heard that it had a ruff life after I sold it but it shur looks sweet now, cant wait to see it finished. DJ
