Distributer / coil wiring???

I'm wireing the coil up and the coil instructions say to wire the negative wire from the distributer to the negative pole on the solenoid. And then the positive wire from the distributor on the positive side. Then do I run an ignition 12 volt to the positive side also? Or am I way off all together?

It is a tpi. All aftermarket. The distributer has two wiring plugs. One hooked to the computer and the other to the coil.
