This is my first go around with a 14 bolt, this is going in a v6 samurai, so I don't care to weld it up and save that money instead of a spool. Where does this need to be welded at? Where the 4 fingers are laying in the carrier? And does the carrier need to be heated before welding? Thanks guys, pics are on the way...

Well, I thought is was a Detroit also, but I don't want that **** doing the one wheel peel if one tire gets in a bind. So do I keep it and rock out? Or just get a spool and sell this thing?

id keep it. But if you want to trade I have a broken one that you can weld up.

Ok ****ers, I know it's a Detroit now for sure. Just wanted to be sure it keeps the back wheels locked in all conditions.

Lol

I'd sell it (with the carrier) and buy a full spool. Should come out even.

I have had 2 Detroit break on me and I welded them together. Just take the spring out put it together and weld it up

I wouldn't. Those are worth good money used. I've sold several. Sell it, get an open carrier which can be found pretty much in the corner of just about every shop I step foot in, weld it up, and use the extra money on natty light.

I have a Detroit in the front I was thinking about welding up, I have never setup a r&p before, and don't know of anybody around here to help that won't charge an arm and a leg. I pretty sure the Detroit is what cause my axle shafts to break last weekend. Trying to save to build 14 bolt for front, so don't want to throw anymore $$ at the lp60 than I have to.

Gears aren't bad at all to do yourself. You'd be in it for less than 1/10th the cost of a 14 bolt. And save money on d60 shafts too.

Im us knuckles out, off of my lp. A guy around home will retube a 14 for 500, inner c's for 450ish. I was just not wanting to mess with swapping the Detroit for a spool. When I was planning on selling the center from the lp, once my other buggy gets done. I have watched a few videos on r&p install, I'm pretty sure I could, but at the same time I would hate to ruin a set of gears. All I need is a dial indicator, a buddy has a press I could use.

I guess that's one of the benefits of welding up what you have, no real need to set the gears up. Granted, depending on what you weld it may warp the carrier a little but probably not enough to change much on a trail rig. Or, you could sell the detroit and throw in a mini spool. They're not much more than $100 so you'd actually come out ahead.

I may look into a mini spool

14 bolt carriers all have the same spider gears. this how I welded (with Angry Fab help).

Edit: All except limited slip or Detroit locker or G80 (gov-loc)
