Hey guys I've been looking at the newish Cooper Discoverer STT

you know, this one:

Anyone running it yet? They seem like they would clean out pretty good and be pretty quiet, kind of a cheaper but still effective version of the toyo mt? Let me know what you think if any of you have been running them or know someone who has been.

I was told the MTR was a good tire, and it is for the most part.
But it sucks in the mud, would I by another pair, not unless they were mainly street use and light wheeling. These look nice but I would not be surprised if they fall into the same performance range.

Jobless-Yeah are three ply. And I think they last longer even than the BFGs. And I can get them like $135 each mounted and balanced for a 31x10.50x15. Or at least thats what could get them for a couple months ago.

GRW-do the MTRs really suck that bad in mud? and you say theyd probably be alright for me if i'm doing the weekend warrior deal and mostly street driving?

I would have to say these tires are pretty tough.

We service a whole fleet of trucks that see logging duty on the Yakama Rez.
There all equipped with the STT. From shale rock to tree stumps they've handled it all. They also do good in the snow.

Yes. You have to have enough power to spin them really fast to clean sticky mud. They're great everywhere else.

MT/R stands for Maximum Tracion / Reinforced. They in no way are a mud tire.

I never said they were KARL :flipoff:

Psst... they ARE M/S 'rated' though... is that like 'trail rated'?

I ran 35 sst's on my Grand. ran the crushers in the rain. And alot of muddy trails at Brown's. Also ran Evan's and Nachez. They did great for me. WAY better than BFG mud terrrains. I had mine sipped. This definitially helps. I also have a 6500+lb rig with a V8. This also helps with traction. Either way The only problem I had with them was getting one that was our of round.(warrantied) My buddy is running a set of 33's(80's yota) after he saw mine and he also likes them alot!
I don't remember them being cheap though. I paid over $300 apeice for mine, they were 35/12.5/18. This could be because they were 18's though.

They work fine every place I have used them except slick sticky WA mud. If you get into the slick sticky mud they turn into slicks. I realize I don't have a V8, but my 16V was spinning the tires. No it did not clean out the mud. I never had that much trouble with my TSL Radials. Yes the MTR is a better streat tire (stays balanced better to). So you have to decide what you want in a tire. Personally I will not be bying another pair UNLESS I have two sets of tires. I would prefer to have a more agreesive tire with a little less street maners............just my $.02:D

I have a set of 30s on my 2wd ranger and love them. I have used them in the street, gravel, mud and snow and they have worked good for me. If I have gotten stuck with them it was from being to low not loss of traction. since I have had mine I have had one guy I work with buy a set of 31s because he liked how they looked and one of my buddies got a set of 31s because of how they performed on my truck.

Heres some pics of my truck with them on it

dobber-how have they been wearing for you so far? i want a high mileage tire that will still work alright off pavement. and this sounds like it does alright so far.

Just a plug for my buddy Greg, (and long time friend) he is now the manager of Tires Plus in totem lake, right next to discount tire, Cooper tire is kind of their store/main brand.. If ya want a better price on them,, call Greg @ tiresplus in totem lake on 124th...

just a side note...I am considering the Mickey Thompson MTZ for my truck!
not trying to hijack at all.

4wheel parts in lynnwood, (Ryan is who I deal with) has a deal with BFG, last we talked BFG was doin a deal if ya buy 3 ya get the 4th free, on 33 X 12.50 X 15 the total after the discount came out to 101.00 per tire.. that's 400.00 a set approx I paid about 150.00 each for my current set at Discount..

I'll quit rambling now!! Jeff:D

Ive had them for almost a year and they haven't worn very much. I do believe that the toyo M/T, which like you said is almost the exact same tire would last for more miles.
