Define please spindle bearings "shot"? How? And since the spindle is just a support for the bearings, why do you think replacing the spindle will help? My experience says, that bearing failure is primarily due to preload failure (too loose, too tight).

Actually, Robin's on the right track! Find a complete set of TJ 4cyl axles with 4.10 gears, and swap the complete assemblies. Then, strip the axle shafts out of your housing to use as spares until you can afford a real upgrade to 44s or 60s.

Why go up? I'm running 37s on a 4.5 inch lift. Just trim the fenders up a little.
