Gambler 500 - I guess it is time to learn about VW's

Is there a date for 2020? Is it worth it. I’ve kind of thought about it but been disappointed that there are not really any $500 cars left in this area on CL or similar, but a couple of days remembered the $350 2wd S10 blazer I bought a year as a chassis done for a project that hasn't started...

    Car Stereo Stuff Question

Coincidentally I just ordered a set of Rockford Fosgate R165X3's. There "Prime" series. Should be here tomorrow and I'll try them out. If I like them, I'll get another set and replace all 4. I'm kind of excited to have a complete set of working speakers in the truck again. $40 and free...

    Car Stereo Stuff Question

So I know squat about Car Stereo stuff, never got into it as a teen even though I knew tons of friends that were. The driver's side door speaker in my Silverado has gone out again. Just over a year on a "GM" replacement from Amazon. Turns out the rear driver's side is out as well and pretty...

    Toyota Front Leaf Springs

Kind of thought the same thing. I might steel some leaves out of those springs, and they will work as-is for holding the rig up, but they are not suitable. For one the spring eyes are WAY too small for the big bolts the toys use. Like I said, I had to torch the bushings out and the bolts take...

    Toyota Front Leaf Springs

Took some pictures and measurements. Front mounts, fixed to shackle is in the 45-46" range. Springs in the pictures are a set of springs I had laying around from an IH pick-up truck which, after I burned the bushings out, fit in pretty nice to allow me to roll it around. Right now they...

    Toyota Front Leaf Springs

The mounts that are on there right now are pretty beefy and/or have been reinforced. I'll take a closer look tomorrow.

    Toyota Front Leaf Springs

Thanks for the links. That helps. Expically the pirate link. Gives me some stock specs to work off of and compare to what I have. I'll dig further this weekend.

    Toyota Front Leaf Springs

D44 is temporary. I have a D60 waiting for round 2, but the I have from my old truck 44 should almost bolt right in and essentially ready to go... and I have spare parts for it. I saw that mentioned a couple of time, but do they bolt up? I saw a couple (old) threads searching the web about...

    Toyota Front Leaf Springs

I recently picked up a Formula Toy project. Its 80-90% complete, but needs some work to get on the trails. Main thing it needs is the front end rebuilt. the PO had it set up for a 3-link but not a really good set-up in my opinion, way long links, hangers hang down right in the middle of the...

    Axle Questions

Looks like I chevy Corp 10-bolt front axle, 3/4" Ton, '78+ as it looks like 8-lug from what I can see. Same if it was a 6-lug. Not sure on the t-case, NP205 maybe? Haven't had a ton of experience with them so I'm not sure, but I know there (use'd) to be a lot of guys one here that would know...

Gambler 500 - I guess it is time to learn about VW's

I like it! Was eyeballing a camo painted suzuki sidekick that was on CL for like $800 for this... got to see if its still available.... and get a couple project out of the yard or the wife will kill me...... I've seen a couple other cool, odd-ball rides that would be bad ass, but most of its...

Gambler 500 - I guess it is time to learn about VW's

Doing the Washington or the OG Oregon one? I saw it referenced somewhere too, then sought out the Dirt Everyday episode and it looked like it could be fun, however finding good, solid info was a little sketchy. Rather then just websites telling what, when and where, is seems mostly loosy...

    D44 highsteer arm

More like 'billet', machined from a solid piece of metal. Definitely a weak point there. Not an issue but like HOS said, if the front bolt got loose an s-ton of bending force in all directions will be concentrated right on that exact spot. Lucky find.

    D44 highsteer arm

I'm confused. Did it just come loose and break a stud, or did the arm itself actually break? If it just came loose and broke the stud, remove the stud, clean everything, replace and bolt it back on. Then make a habit of checking the bolts/studs on a regular basis. If the arm itself broke...

    "Stuck" Caliper

Agains my "IH guy" cheapness, I picked up a new set of calipers on the way home today. If nothing else, I get new pins and sliders, which was probably 1/2 my issue. Now I just need to make time to get them on and tested before next weekend. Might actually go wheeling..... with I couple old...

    "Stuck" Caliper

So this past month, when we actually had some snow in the lowlands, I had a rear caliper on my junk eventually freeze up (stick) as I was tearing around the neighborhood. Fast forward to tonight I actually clean the garage enough to pull it inside and tear it apart. I was able to get the...

    P/S pump recommendations

Its been a while since I looked into this crap. Whats the difference between the "P" the "TC" and the "N" pumps? If i ever rebuild my junk (which I need to), I'll probably be in the market as well.

    Powerstroke hard start

Try glowing it twice before firing. Should be some sort of glowplug indicator light. Turn the key till it comes on but don't crank. When it goes out, turn the key off and do it again. Maybe even to it a third. See if that makes a difference. I know it makes a world of difference with the 6.0 in...

    Rear End Shop

Neither am I. Been a pretty solid truck for us. I used it as a tow rig for my junk for a few years before I got the dirtymax, probably didn't help :redneck: still works just fine, I just noticed the rear howled more than it always has so I decided to investigate. Wasn't sure if they were...

    Rear End Shop

The rear end in one of our shop trucks just took a crap. '04 Silverado 1500. Sounds like it chipped a tooth and the gears have started eating themselves and the center pin it loose. Since its a work truck, subject to employees driving it, I need to find a shop to do it and do a good job...
