    buggy build price

Sami with toy stuff is a great lightweight combo (with the cab to keep the wife happy, which means you can wheel more), especially if you're going to be towing with a tacoma.:eeek:

    14 Bolt Chromoly debate

Like it's been said, in your shop with a welder. Run the stock shafts until you prove you can break them.

    231 v6 in my 98 tj

You, my friend, have a set of Toyota mini-truck axles. Looking at the second to last pic of the front axle show a reinforced housing which means it's around an '83-'85. I can't remember exactly what years started that reinforcement. The reason you're getting so much crap is you state you know...

    231 v6 in my 98 tj

So does this mean my 14 bolt is now only a 1/2 ton axle because of the 1/2 disc brakes I installed? So should I upgrade to a toyota axle with "one ton gears" to replace the 14 bolt or just reinstall the drum breaks?

Did you build both of those, if so, how do you not know how to figure out a ring and pinion ratio?:eeek:

    231 v6 in my 98 tj

Not to pile on but if you don't know how to figure out what gears are in a rig, you shouldn't be building one. Get out your checkbook or debt card and pay someone. It will be easier, cheaper (in the long run) and safer. I don't want to have to pull your junk of the trail with "one of my four...

    231 v6 in my 98 tj

:haha: Wheel the datsun, you'll never finish a new build. I would like to see a toyota with one ton gears and a 600hp motor working them. Take a video.

It sounds like the Datsun is fairly complete. Get it running (forget the blower) and wheel it.

    4.3 or 302

A 4.3 is a good motor and if you don't have a lot of money for a build/repairs stick with it. A 302 would certainly have more pep but if you want a V8 a 305 might be better for your build. Wheel what you got and save your pennies for an upgrade down the road.

    shortening leaf springs?

You can't be serious with that kind of question. If you are, your best bet is to go down and buy a Rubicon right off the lot and then contact the Around the Sound Jeep Club.

    shortening leaf springs?

Nah, I agree with Choppy. Weld it up. You should also heat the whole spring red hot and quench it in ice cold water.

    "Authentic Longfield" from TrailGear.

I met Bobby at the funny rocks when his birfs still had the ring welded around them. He was always into making the best product possible and I was willing to pay for it. (not that it was over priced). He backed up his product, no questions. I guess the Longs in my runner just went up in value...

    ford 289 in 84' toyota

When I did mine, you have to use a 2wd C4 and put an new output shaft in it for the adapter to the toy case. The C4 is a tough little tranny with tons of upgrades if needed. I put a deep pan and extended pick up on mine with a big cooler.

    ford 289 in 84' toyota

I did this swap about 10yrs ago with a 302 in a '83 yota. It was my favorite wheeler. A friend just picked up my c4 and c4 to toy case adapter today. The sbf fits better than the chevy stuff. Narrower and distributor in front. I used an aftermarket radiator with the taurus fan. Ran toy...

    got a ? about spools.

You're right the Toys have been making the 4cylinder work for decades off road, the jeep 4 will work just like the toy 4 does. I had a cj5 yrs ago with toy axles and it worked fine for a trail rig. Doublers with a four popper makes the difference (that's why their so popular with the...
