2005 Grand Cherokee Help

My Son's 2005 Grand Cherokee is having electrical problems I am unable to diagnose.
I have a especially strong dislike of Reardons after having dealt with them when my daughter had a Dodge. Could anyone recommend a good shop to take this Jeep to? Thank you for any replies.

Symptoms:
Battery is over 12 volts, starter is good. When the key is turned it clicks as though the starter is bad or battery is low. Checked all related fuses and relays and could find no issues. The dash lights flash when the key is turned to either start or run & I can hear relays cycling on & off. Both do this repeatedly. A transmission overheat error flashes and an electrical service message also flash once each.

We have had to replace a few grand cherokee battery harness's. Common for them to burn up

Thanks guys, now I have a couple more ideas to lead me. Any more ideas would be welcome as I don't know the common problems that these Jeeps have. Always have had Toyotas myself.

Are there any codes in the system Dan?

I don't have access to a code reader up here or that would have been one of the first things I checked.

Or shorting the screwdriver across the posts on the starter. lol
I took the starter out and ran it straight from the battery and it worked just fine so I figured it ruled that out.

Agree with battery cable issues, check all your connections and stuff around the battery real good.

X3 (or whereveer on the list!:redneck:) Battery connection issue somewhere...check both B+ and B- very thoroughly...

Also, you can have more than 12v in the battery and still have a bad battery. Try a battery from another vehicle.

On my wifes 99 we had the same issue. Crawl under and look for the big plug into the transmission, it's a lot of things including the neutral safety. I pulled it out, kind of a pain, cleaned it up and plugged it back in, works fine. There is also 2 or 3 ground straps on the passenger side near the tranny as well.
Good luck, also look on nagca.com, grand cherokee website with good info.

I am stupid with electrical, tried all that was suggested. Now I really need a shop recommendation in the Monroe area that is not Rairdons. I just don't have the time to screw with it any longer.

Ended up having it towed to Wagley Creek Automotive in Sultan. So I will see how they are.

This was part of it Gary, good call. Shorted wire up against the engine was the other part, insulation had worn through. The shop was very reasonable and had it back that evening. 100 bucks plus a battery, good deal.

glad you got it figured out.

My wifes 97 had some problems. It took a megger and e ETs to figure it out. Not to mention removing the whole wiring harness.
