While stuck in some wicked traffic on 520 on Friday afternoon, I watched at the transmission temperature and radiator temps got fairly high.
I kept the truck in nuetral when not moving and once I saw the radiator temps rise above the standard 210', I turned off the AC and put on the heater to help dump the extra heat. The transmission peaked out at around 220 until we got moving again.
The truck: 1500 GMC Sierra, 2008 model, 4.8L V-8 with 4 speed autobox
Am I looking normal operating temperatures (with bad traffic, warm air temps)? What is the safe range, primarly of the transmission, before the tranny fluid breaks down?
Nice truck otherwise.
