A guy up in Canada did all the normal tweaks to an re from port work, aggressive cam, supra afm etc and put down 160 hp/ 190 tq to the back tires on a 2wd and flat ran out of computer.


Bang for the buck is a nice midrange cam (around 265* duration and over .450" lift), adjustable cam gear, port matching at the minimum, good header and the best single bang for the buck... a lightweight flywheel. The old tech of hanging a 30 lb flywheel off the crank so the engine can lug down has been superceded by dual t cases. I've done all the mods and bolting a 9lb flywheel on woke that little tractor engine up more than every other mod combined.
