So when I'm at an idle with my foot on the break, the rpm's want to bounce up and down from 1000 to about 1300. If I take my foot off the brake they rise up and hold 1500 to 1800 and will stay there. Its a random problem and only happened a few times but seems to be related with braking only. any ideas?

So it's probably the booster going out, otherwise if it was a vacuum leak it would do it all the time? Are 2wd and 4wd the same booster?

i worked on a rig that did this also. it ended up being the fitting that is long right next to the t stat housing was clogged. it is a temp sensor line that runs coolant over to the intake and if it gets clogged sends info back to comp. to adjust idle cuz it thinks its still cold. the fitting has a pointed end with slots in it that get clogged with crap flowing in the coolant.

i'd check this first, it may not be your issue but thats exactly what this one did.

Yep, I was gonna ask why does this thing normally idle at 1800, then bounce between 1000-1300 with brake applied??? Good place to look---does sound like there's a couple issues goin' on tho....:awesomework:

Could also just be a simple matter of the idle being too high.
could be a bad IAC valve, vacuum leak, or an idiot with a screwdriver turned the idle up too high.
