So i have a 98 4.3 im guna be swapping into my 90 ext. cab toy. It has the aluminum oil pan on it and when i got the motor probly six months ago i figured i would just get a steel oil pan off another 4.3 for it. Well i just recently have been looking around for one and it seems there isnt a factory steel pan that will fit. So my question is does anyone know of an aftermarket steel oil pan that will fit? Or is anyone out there just running the aluminum pan on theirs? I was thinking i could probly just make a skid plate for it but would still prefer to run a steel pan if anyway possible.

For one originally designed with an alluminum pan, I have not seen anyone run a steel pan...I believe the allum pan's design is partly to help block strength/rigidity...

I am running the aluminum one. I think I bottomed out on it once when I destroyed my flywheel cover, and tranny pan. After that I built a skid plate for it.

I think there is a structural reason for it as well. I know they are really specific about torquing it down right.
