5.9 cummins in a 1980 chev 1 ton

So I need a new motor in my truck. I want a diesel truck But I own 4 trucks already and I want to downsize. So I have found some 5.9's for about 1500 but I also saw an adapter for a 5.9 to a th400 anyone have any input tech tips or any ideas for me?

I just picked up a complete rig minus axles myself, what I have found is 4btswaps.com There is alot of 6 cyl stuff in there as well. All in all very easy to do. The th400 conversion plate, just make sure you get the flywheel and incidentals with it, if you go that route or can go the 518 dodge trany which will have the correct transfercase drop for your rig. Now I just gotta keep myself from selling this rig so I can do something with it..

Thinking outloud. Can a 80's era frame take the grunt of a 5.9 dizzle?

I don't see a reason it couldn't it is boxed all the way down. It is nothing some plating won't fix
