I'm going with welded rear, open front.

chunks are welded right now but we have open chunks and their 6.44 gears

Has the steer axle been narrowed? Maybe its just me but it doesn't look offset enough, but I'm used to 2.5tons

It looks to me like the chunk has been flipped to center up the driveshaft
