A DIY for the camping folks

OK, messed around with it a little more tonight... Made one out of soda cans because they are a little wider than the keystone cans... Worked a bit better...

Made notches both top and bottom on the inner liner... Also cut flappy things to make it stay together while I assembled...

Also crimped the bottom instead of the top, just figured it would seal better if the top was overlapping on the outside...

Then fried another egg and made an omelet...

Then I decided that it was to tall and took to long to warn up to prime the jets...

This one I used a thumb tack to make the jets and only notched the bottom of the inner lining... I tried with just the 5 holes on top, but that didn't work... Ended up cutting it out and it worked way better than both the others...

I played with eggs so the next step had to be bacon...:haha:

Well, I took it to the next level... Used almost 1 1/2 oz. of fuel(denatured alcohol) and boiled an egg... Only took 5 mins to boil and cooked the egg for 15 mins... It still burned for almost 10 mins after removing the jar...

What do you do with a boiled egg??? Deviled eggs of course...:redneck:

Sorry for jumping all over your thread Boonie... I've often thought about buying a little stove, but they cost a **** ton... My boys are really having a good time with this project...

So, we've worked on a few designs...

This one has a hole that you use to fill under the penny, then drop the penny on the hole when you light it... It has to be primed to warm the fuel to a vapor...

It works better with more/smaller holes...

Then I started working on ideas for pot stand/wind shield...

This was to heavy and bulky...

This was just to difficult to build effectively...

Then I started playing around with some wire...

Tried using rivets...

This worked pretty good...

This worked great for the small stove...

Then I saw a design on the net and went from there... A sink strainer(97 cents at Walmart) and some peg board hooks... Breaks down real easy and holds a pot or can really well...

Haven't cooked anything with the last version... The will determine if it becomes part of the cook system...

Gonna build a Heiny Pot today and start putting together a fully contained cook system...

I really like that you're trying a bunch of things out! Did you ever check out that video of the guy that converted a thermos into a stove and carries all his cooking crap in it. it's a really neat setup. I think it'd be too heavy for my likings, but i also carry everything under the sun when i go out. :redneck:

OK, I made myself a Heiny Pot... Pretty common with hikers because it's crazy light weight, heats really fast, really durable for aluminum and it's the perfect size to contain your entire cook set... Use a safe cut can opener...

I plan on adding a wooden knob to the lid and some fiberglass fireplace rope around the green so it can be picked up when hot...

Then I did the bonus and built a neat little add on to the Heiny Pot...

I also used a piece of the copper tubing to finish the pot stand...

Of course, after making a coffee perk for the Heiny Pot, I had to give it a test run...

Then I broke it down and everything stores inside... The stove, stand, perk, spork, 3 oz. bottle of fuel and water proof match case... I'll add a few things as the come to mind...

Stove inside the top of the perk...

then the bottom and o-rings...

Then everything else, with plenty of room for other stuff...
