Advice for those looking to get into off-roading and rock climbing

Apart from the obvious don't do it and it's going to cost a lot, what advice would you give to a beginner? Best first mod, best vehicle, anything you can throw would probably help someone here.

take it on some trails and get to know the rig in stock form before making a lot of changes.

Add a winch, front locker would be the first mods I would recommend.

Everybody knows it's light bars before lockers. Honestly though like Olecoot said, take it on some trails and get to know the vehicle. After a while you'll learn what you need like lockers, winch etc. And always carry spare parts and tools. Can't count how many people I've ran across without even a screwdriver much less a lug wrench and jack.

Good point on the tools. I'm surprised how many people drive on paved roads without any tools. I'm not talking about a whole engine rebuild set, but at least the basics should be mandatory

Even my wife insist on having at a minimum a socket set, screwdrivers, pliers and jumper cables.
