Airline tickets...

Can you help a newb?

I flown a lot, but never been the one buying my own tickets. It seems there is a bunch of websites out there, but I'm unfamiliar with them and there seems to be so many. What have people on here had luck with and enjoy using? BTW I'm not flying until after the holidays since I'm trying to keep the ass raping to a minimum.

She wouldn't be sensible like most women. I'd be flyin out tomorrow, Christmas or on New Years and blow a ton of money I could spend on gas to go wheelin a few last times:haha:

So far I've found Expedia, Cheap Tickets.com, Travelocity and Priceline. I have searched, just lookin for any input.

Priceline and bid on tickets, start rediculously low and step up. Sometimes its cheaper to get a package with a rental car just don't get the car if not needed, (but varify it won't void the plane tickets). We've done this and save a butt ton of money. Did this prior to deployment, we found out at the last minute that we had a 4 day pass. A couple buddies and I flew here from Benning. My wife did the bid thing and my ticket was $220 cheaper than my buddies who bought then outright off the same site.

In my experience, travelocy, expedia, and all of those are generally like $1 more than just going to alaskaair.com directly and buying them. Now, if you're trying to do airfare, hotel, etc. together, those other sites make it easier.

this is why i rather drive places. all my shoes are slip ons so i dont have to worry about tieing.:redneck:

kayak.com compares all expedia's orbitz, of the world. I use every time

travelocity is good for their 'last minute deals'. Got some good flights+rental cars off of their in the past. Other than that, figure out what major airlines fly to your destination and jump on their website for pricing.

I fly home to Detroit 1-2 times a year and nearly always book through NWA.com.

I had problems with them a while ago... Just now did a google search and this was 4th down the list.

Hi All:

Well, I'm no expert but have purchased a few air fare tickets online.

I use Expedia for some, but not all of them. I've also purchased directly on the airline's own websites.

To get the best price, connections, etc. you need to play around with dates, departure times, and so on.

For a recent overseas trip when I started the search the tickets cost US$2600 each and total travel time would be 30 hours, which included two connections and long layovers. The air fare I booked was US$1500 each with one connection and short layover, for 18 hours total travel time.

So, it pays to spend some time farting around on different air fare websites before booking. :D

flown almost 100000 miles this year.....it matters where you are going, where the nearest hub for an airline...........then buy directly from airline........or bid if you don't mind alot of connections.........imo, i would rather pay a couple hundred more just to not deal with a full day of travel that could take only 4 or 5 hours, my time is worth more than that:awesomework:

My son flies from VA 2-3 times a year. I use sidestep.com They will show the prices from most carriers.

Ok actually my wife finds the tickets.

St Paul MN... Looks like most round trips are about $200. I sure don't think that's too bad. Thanks for everyone's input. I had no idea there were that many sites out there:awesomework:
